Boost (gauge install) question

Installed the SPA dual boost/temp gauge. I am getting wacky readings, and I'm thinking it has to do where I installed the sensor. I used the extra nipple on the intake manifold, which is what most people suggested. However, the readings are extremely high. I have a basically stock engine so I'm thinking I oughta see around 10-11psi of boost at WOT, right?

Hell, I'm seeing 18-24. The actual sensor is about 1/2" in diameter, and it's supposed to be mounted/immersed directly into a "boost pressure" area. What we did however is different. The pressure is coming through one nipple, down a 5" piece of silicone hose, through another nipple, which is part of a brass fitting which fits the sensor.

My thoughts are that it's sorta like if I blow in your face, you feel a certain amount of pressure (and smell my stank breath ), but if I blow through a straw at your face you feel more pressure over a smaller area. I'm thinking that's what we've done, by restricting the area the pressure is coming through.

Any thoughts? It seems as though others have recommended using this nipple, because it's so dang convenient but I don't know if it works well at all.

TIA.

David Cheers

The digital gauge kicks ***, by the way. Expensive as hell, but what the hey.

Temp gauge works perfect. Will post some numbers as to how it compares to stock gauge in a little while.

Sure that youre not somehow reading pressure in inches of mercury? If you were, that would explain being off by around a factor of 2.

Did you use the hose that came with the gauge? If not then the diameter of the hose is throwing your readings off.

Where else might you connect the sensor hose other than the UIM?

You can 'T' into some hose... right? Which hose?
