you should be boosting just fine, my brother has just a dp and he recently got a boost gauge just to find out that his boost curve is a perfect 10-8-10. personnaly i think he has a clogged cat but it should still be fine with only the dp, if you get a straight pipe like me and put a 1.25 restrictor plate in, youll be boosting about .9-1 bar which is a bit too much.

I think I was a rare exception where having the dp as my only mod significantly changed my boost. After I installed it, I was hitting 12-14 on the primary. Secondary was ok. I had to switch the pills to bring it under control. Now I get 10-11 on primary.

So you'll probably be ok, but I'd recommend that you keep a close eye on the boost gauge the first few drives.

First off, get a boost gauge! This should be done before anything else!

I think it depends on alot of different factors. I put on a downpipe and catback, started boosting close to 12.5 on the primary, and 11 on the secondary. Two months later it got really cold out and VIOLA! 16 PSI BABY!! Buh-bye turbos! Wweeeeee!

Do yourself a favor and just get the boost controller with the downpipe. You're going to need on with the first mod after a dp, but it wouldn't hurt to be on the safe side. At the very MINIMUM go with a Dawes type or Home Depot type bleeder valve, that way you can atleast turn down the pre-spool and curtail those spikes!

Good luck man!

EDIT: Oh, the pills you were asking about are small metal cylinder type things with a specifically sized hole in the middle. They are inserted into two vacuum hoses which attach to the pre-spool and spool actuators. Basically they limit the amount of vacuum the actuators get to control boost. DONT TAKE THEM OUT! And if you ever do the silicone hose mod, PUT THEM BACK IN EXACTLY THE WAY YOU TOOK THEM OUT. This is of course only if you dont already have an aftermarket boost controller.

if you check out http://www.rotarypowered.com/img/pic...lvediagram.gif the bleed valve is taking place of the pills, the more air you let go thru the vaccume lines, the less the boost will be, if you open it up all the way or take the pills out of the line, it should only boost to 7 psi max or so i have heard.

P.S. you can put a bleedvalve to the other vaccume line going to the prespool control and control your secondary boost as well but be careful cuz you can pop your engine really fast if you don't know what your doing.

heres another pic

You guys always have awesome information......... Thanks so much.................the bottom line is that the DP will most likely (almost positively) be the only mod I ever put on in terms of performance...............255hp is plenty for me and I LOVE the car and performance as is.........the reason for the DP is that the combination of a little more HP, and less heat in the engine area seems like 250 well spent. 0-60 in 5 seconds is plenty for me.........the engine has 68k miles on it and the compressions I got before buying it were straight 8's practically.......... so I don't really want to modify for performance at the sacrifice of any type of reliability.......... I'm gonna do the silicone hoses and the metal AST and that'll be about it.............I am interested in performance driving and this April am driving the 3.7 mile road course at Sebring............ so it oughta be a hoot...........

You gotta realize.......... on that sticky poll I'm in the 3.8% category (40-45 year olds) of owners..........If I was a 20-25 year old swingin' dick like the majority of the owners are (40% according to the poll), ............with out a house payment on a 425K home, without the expenses that go along with supporting my family (wife, twin boys) with my income alone.................. then I'd say heck yeah......... let's mod that bad boy until I can pull about 450hp on the dyno.........etc.............my local mechanic reworked a guy's local FD and it does pull about 470........ the guy ran a Viper GTS the other night about 3 in the morning and pulled side by side with the Viper to about 165, and then walked away from the Viper by a little......... is the story he told.............. hey, he's a 26 year old stockbroker with nothing better to do...........my life is infinitely wonderful........ just a different life........(plus, truth be told...... if I dump much more money into the FD my wife will probably cut my ***** off........heheheh....)

But the bottom line is that I think this car is pretty bad *** performance wise bone stock...........I've already blown off several 5.0 stangs and plenty of rice........ so what the hey................Anyways, I hope I'll be ok without a boost gauge, without a boost controller, etc. if I do just the DP alone..............

And hey, now you know all about my life......... and by the grace of God it IS truly wonderful.............Thanks again...........

First off, what's with the ..............?
just kidding. hehe i'm about in the same boat as you in terms of modifications, however, my financially limiting factor is that i'm still in high school O_o. anyway, all i've done was a downpipe, k&n air filter drop-in intake, aluminium ast, and boost and water guages. that's about all i plan on doing. my next big mod will be a v-8, but that's a different story. if you plan on road racing it a lot, you might want to look into a new aluminium radiator. BTW, the vacuum hose job is quite an ambitious venture, i personally haven't mustered up the ***** yet, but i figure i'd have a new p****n engine by then. But if you're up to it, by all means... anyway, hope you have fun with the car. one word of advice that willl go a long way. "MAINTENANCE"

......................... for separating thoughts..........most of mine die of loneliness anyways..............

Hey it's infectious....... caught you at the end of your post with a little (..) yourself........

I'll check out the aluminum radiator thing.......... I found a local guy that is on his 20th REX and knows the cars inside out forwards backwards.........he's gonna install my downpipe, replace my radiator hoses, do the silicone tube job, and replace my outer drive belt for $250 so I figure WTF.........replaced my plugs the other day, and after 1 and 1/2 hours also said WTF...........the only additional costs will be the downpipe which I already bought.............

Good luck and see ya..........Was in Maui 6 months ago........ WOW......... what a great place to live..........kinda pricey though, bruddah..............Mahalo.........

All that for $250. That is a hell of a deal. Sounds almost to good to be true. There is no way I would do the silcone hose job alone for $250. Glad you enjoy your FD. Lose the "........" it makes your posts a PITA to read.

Glad to hear it. Regarding the shadetree guy not ripping me off. Met with him and seems like a real decent guy. Has a lift in his garage, etc. and is in the middle of a complete engine rebuild on his daughters FD.

Hey look, ma, no "..............."
