I have a large single turbo on my FD3s and i think the boost is too much...itll end up damaging my rotors and seals....will a boost controller help? how does it work?
whats a economical one to get and from where?

i have a single apexi turbo and standard ECU.
Dont know the boost caus i dont have a meter.
but its much more than the standard setup caus ive driven both,,,,sorry about the lack of detail.
i jsut want to know if a boost controller will let me set a safe boost level

How can you put on a new turbo and not have a boost gauge or controller?
You are just asking for problems. I hope this doesn't end up being another misused, misunderstood RX-7 that dies because of abuse. Not trying to flame but think about what your doing.

already blew one engine and am on the 2nd one now.
i dont know enough about rx7's i admit...
now i dont even boost until i know what to do...
please tell what what and why re the boost controller.

I'm responding to your post because it doesn't appear that anyone else is giving any useful advice to help you in your situation. The first thing I would do is confirm that you do have a stock computer. It is located int the passenger side foot well and it only takes about 3 minutes to acces. The computer has a label on it that states the model year and will look something like this EM-PE-ECU101. If it is an aftermarket computer or remapped stock computer it should have some marking related to its origin. If you do indeed have a stock computer there is nothing you can do to ensure you won't blow another engine. The second thing is get a boost gauge. With out it there is now way to dial in boost with a controller. As far as a boost controller I use a "ball and spring" type controller. I purchased mine from www.boostcontroller.com. They are kind of pricey so if money is a concern look for something similar on ebay. However, before you purchase one I'd consider reading damian's post here:

thanks a million for the info, tester 1977. I read Damians report but i think that setup is too complex for me.
Im not looking for a perfect boost control...jsut something that will protect my engine. I wont be driving the car flat out or anything. jsut occational spurts and bursts. Thats Sri lankan roads for you.
Im looking to keep boosts to safe levels. I cant deal with another engine replacement.
Can you guys suggest a economical yet practical meathod. Also im not looking for max power from my turbo...stock 250 bhp is fine by me.

thats simply DUMB to have an upgraded turbo with no support mods... Fuel system, Piggy Backs or ECU, FMIC, and basic parts (exhaust,dp,bov,ebc or mbc, boost gauge/egt guage/f.p guage)...
do yourself a favor and save up some money and buy the parts i listed above, before you go on another motor..
for boost controller, stay with the best, either
Greddy E-01 or Blitz SBC... there very accurate and wont cause boost spikes like other controllers

Guys, as Max pointed out, a boost controller alone isn't going to help him. The minimum boost he's going to be able to run is whatever his wastegate spring is. In any case, a single turbo at 10 psi is still going to have different power curve characteristics that may still be dangerous with the stock ecu.
I would let the car sit until you figure out what else you need to make the car safe to run -- such as standalone ecu, upgraded fuel system, etc. Either that or remove the single turbo, sell it, and reinstall a set of stock twin turbos on the car.
