Question Books

First let me apologize if I'm posting in the wrong section but my question is about the third gen rx-7. I don't know a whole lot about this car but I'm really looking to learn and am wondering if anyone can recommend any books that would be good sources of info for the 93-95 rx-7 that would help someone who doesn't know much about the car but wants to learn starting with the basics.

I'd rather not fill the board with a whole bunch of noob questions.

Other than trollling through this forum I would look at these sites:

http://www.iluvmyrx7.com/
http://www.maxcooper.com/rx7/
http://www.scuderiaciriani.com/rx7/

Iluvmyrx7 has shop manuals on it and other two sites have some excellent howtos on them. There's more sites than this but these 3 are a good start.

Best book to get on the 3rd gen RX-7 is the Jack Yamaguchi book (Mazda RX-7) sold to buyers of the car back in 92+

Printed in 92 for the world release of the series-6 (92-95) version, its a collectors item & a must have for any enthusiast.

mgoddard1, thank for you help. However the first link you posted is just a blank page when I go and visit.

DMRH, thank you for your help. I haven't found that book as of yet but I will.

OK, book review time . I have pretty much every RX-7 book I've been able to get my hands on.

The Yamaguchi book already referenced is EXCELLENT. Tons of awesome color photos, details of the whole design process, a bunch of background on the design, you name it. Last I heard it was out of print, so you'll need to find a used copy. They do pop up on Ebay fairly often, and they're not TOO hard to find. The 2nd gen Yamaguchi book is REAL hard to find - took me years to get that one .

There's a relatively new book by Brian Long called "RX-7 - Mazda's Rotary Engine Sportscar" or something like that. EXCELLENT book. THE definitive history of the RX-7, tons of great photos, and also outlines the different models and options available in Japan and Europe. Goes all the way from the Cosmo to the preproduction RX-8. A new version of the book just came out a month or so ago, and I gotta get that one too .

Matras's RX-7 Sports Car Color History has been out for some time and is a bit dated, but it's a good book. A few minor errors in it, and it really only talks about the US RX-7's. Has a BUNCH of RX-7 race history, which is pretty cool.

The RX-7 Performance Handbook by Mike Ancas is HORRIBLE. TONS of errors in it, no decent information...I even have an autographed copy and it's still worthless. Buy it if you just want all the books out there, but it's not worth having.

That's the primary books out there. Here's some Amazon links:

Brian Long book, new edition:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Yamaguchi book, showing some used copies available:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Matras' Sports Car Color History:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...glance&s=books

Performance Handbook -

If you could just get one book, I'd get either the Brian Long or Yamaguchi books. Long's book has the WHOLE RX-7 history and tons of pics. Yamaguchi has more minutia about the FD, tons of parts of pics, why the engineers designed stuff the way they did, etc. Depends on what tickles your fancy the most.
