BNR III - buy worn turbos or use my own as core

I'm thinking of ordering a set of BNRs in the next few months and was wondering whether to send in my own stock twins as a core or buy a tired set and send those.

My turbos have 49k miles on them and absolutely zero shaft play. It seems a shame to use them as a core since they probably have tens of thousands of miles left in them. I can keep them as a backup or as a part out replacement if I sell my car in the next few years.

I would assume that BNR use only the housings in a rebuild and that there would be no risk in this strategy - or am I missing something?

IMO I'd keep the ones I have on, and buy a cheap set and send those in. Bryan just doesn't want a really bad set though. They have to be atleast worth rebuilding. So, yes keep the ones you have on as a spare for later, and get a good used set, and send those in. It's a piece of mind thing. You atleast feel backed up knowing that you have a good set laying around, just incase those super cool BNR's do fail one day. Or even send in your nice ones for a back up BNRs. Damn, BALLIN! HAHA!

Bryan won't reuse the rotating assys, all you really need is a set with a minimum of cracking on the section of the exhaust housing that bolts to the manifold.

What Rich said. If you are running them seq, you will want to find a core set with minimal cracking around the pre-control section too. I did not send him my 85k mile set.....https://www.rx7club.com/showpost.php...5&postcount=46

Yeah, if you got a good set with only 49k, I'd buy a cheap set as a core, and keep yours as a back up. mine have 145k on them, and when I get them replaced or go single, I'd gladly send out my wore out twins as a core. But I'm still surprised with 145k, I still get 10 psi easily. Only recently started leaking a little from the secondary. Although, I think I'm blowing a little oil because when I floor it, I see a cloud of smoke behind me, LOL!!! But hey, injecting oil in a rotary is a good thing right?
