blue smoke / oil leak

Hi guy's

At start up there is more blue smoke than normal. It does not clear as fast as it ised to. It normaly hangs around for up to 1 minute.

I'm leaking oil from somewhere under the hood. I wondered if it was the turbo's as a rotary mechanic told me they go at about 85-90,000 km's. However the oil would be coming out of the exhaust (which it does) not leeking under the hood.

Oil is splattered over most areas of the front of the engine. Any ideas at this stage before i move on and take things apart to try and isolate this further?

My new rebuild motor(just run in - 1000kms) does that too on cold start up. It smells like oil burning but I don't see any oil leaks around the engine area and it stops smoking after it's warmed up. It can't be my engine so I think it might be my twins on their way out, 99000kms on them!
I did give them a brife clean while they were out, and found some oil in the actuator tubes(wastegate & turbo precontrol) and pipings.
Sorry I don't have any advice, maybe look around the pcv valve area!?

If your turbos are going/gone, then you should be able to smell the oil burning. The smoke out the tailpipe for a prolonged period is definitely a sign. When my first two sets of turbos died, I got smoke from the engine bay as well as out the exhaust. It happens ...

However, the oil on the front of the engine is peculiar. I'm not sure what that is .... perhaps a cracked y-pipe (plastic version) or a split IC hose that's splitting oil from your dying turbos.

Redrotor, good suggestion !

My 2nd turbo kicks in @ around 5500 rpm. No boost gague yet, however its not doing that well.

primary turbo is doing fine. Is the broken Y pipe or IC hose a common problem ?

Hmm, i think i might have a reason...i'll check when its light outside. I took the hoses off that plumb back to the airbox. I replaced the holes with 1" air filters and left the pipes to go into the atmosphere. It gives a blow-off valve sound..

The blow-off valve lines will actually allow oil through ... especially if you have leaky turbos. Having those lines just open to atmosphere could also explain the oil on the front of your engine.
