Black smoke?

what's that comin' out of the exhaust when i either rev the engine or start it? is it bad or what?

black=fuel (running too rich=ok)
blue=oil
white=coolant (possibly condensation)

okay great...thanks for the info skunks...appreciate it! one thing...so what'd be a better solution to not having the black fuel? and what can i do to avoid black smoke and just in case, blue smoke?
