Question Black Smoke

Hi,
I bought an Rx-7 very recently and am in love with the car. I am just facing one problem and hope that someone can help me out. Every time I start the car and the idling settles at 750 Rpm the car keeps on giving black smoke for a good 5 6 seconds.I know the rotary engines give smoke but is this occurance common or is my mixture running rich.I would really appreciate a solution to it.

Thanks
Saad

From what i've been hearing black smoke isnt bad as if it was white smoke. White smoke would mean you blew your coolant seal.

Black smoke typically means fuel. Is it totally stock or have some mods been done?

Its Totally stock, I raced yesterday with another Rx-7 after I shut of the car and started it the black smoke kept on coming for longer about 10 seconds or so. Someone told me that my injectors might b weak.Let me know what u guys think.

Thanks

Are you having smoke under wide open throttle also? Have someone follow you and watch to see. An injector can certainly cause overfueling but I wouldn't start there unless you want to pull the injectors and send them off to rcengineering.com and have them test the flow and clean them to rule that out. I have never troubleshot a stock system so I am afraid I can not offer more than that. (there are several things on a stock car that I think could contribute but I don't have these on my car so my understanding of them is limited)

I had a black smoke problem on my first 3rdgen (which I never turned a bolt on) that sounds similar to yours and took it to 2 or 3 mechanics to have it corrected but they all basically shrugged and said it is better to have black smoke than run lean and sent me on my way. (which is why I do all my own work now).

Hopefully someone with a stock system / ecu will jump in. Oh one last thing - do a search for black smoke, there are tons of posts.
