What is the biggest size rim and tire width that I could put on a FD?

I run 17x9 with 255/40/17 all around with stock suspension. The offset is 40mm. That is the widest for the front with that offset. Had to take out the inside fender screw but did not have to roll the fenders. The rear can go way wider to 295.

Really???? Damnit....SleepR1's been helping w/ the offset calcs and according to the darn formula, 40mm does not clear. Got any pix of the setup? Which tire are you running?

In my case: 255/40-17 Kumho V700 is 10.6" in section width.

Offset to clear 3.5" front space = (10.6 / 2) - 3.5 * 25.4 = 45 - 46mm
with rear space clearance of 10.6 - 3.5 = 7.1" (which is less than 7.5" limit).

Ughhhhhh......

Wuppy and Hedge

Wuppy consulted me with his setup prior to his moving forward with his purchase. I told him that it would be VERY TIGHT up front 40-mm offsets and 255s-on-9s (too tight for my comfort). I told him about the fender bolt, and the possibility of rolling front fender lips. As it turns out, he's been able to get away with it, but I'd bet he goes up driveway curbs VERY GINGERLY!

Not all 255s measure the same width on a spec 9-inch wide rim. The Kumho V700s in particular are the widest 255s available. They're more like a typical 265-mm section width tire, and should be mounted on 9.5-inch or 10-inch wide rim, IMO. So in Hedgehog's case the 255 Victoracers on 9-inch wide rims with 45 mm offsets would be the absolute limit, and probably as tight up front as Wuppy's setup.

I like to have much more clearance than that because I won't tolerate ANY rubbing.

The tightest I'd go would be 45-mm offset 9 x 17 SSR Integral A2s with 255/40-17 Pirelli P-Zeros or Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Poles all the way around.

I have 42 mm 8.5 x 17 SSR Competitions for the fronts on my track racing setup. Even with beefy 245/45-17 Hoosier R3S03s, the 42 mm offset, 8.5-inch wide rims allow the Hoosiers to fit up front with no rubbing (it IS tight though!). I have no issues with the 9.5 x 17-275/40-17s in back. Aesthetically my red R1 looks "badd ***" with the Comps and Hoosiers, and goes as fast as it promises to, while sitting in the paddock, with hood up
