The larger turbos in the pic are probably not Bathurst turbos, rather they are a very limited run of Mazdaspeed turbos for the SP edition RX-7.

-edit- well... I guess the SP was the version of the RX-7 that ran in the '95 Bathurst race, so if you think about it that way, they are Bathurst turbos. lol

Before buying my 2000 Type R i've searched a lot and spent a lot of time at the Mazda dealership deciding which model to go with. I even test drove a dark yellow limited edition 2001 Type R Bathurst and believe me it was the same. I even had the Japanese brochures that i special ordered from the dealership translated. Obviously those turbos are not from a 2001 Bathurst R.

We agree that the ltd ed Type R Bathurst was the same power plant as the 280 PS versions of the '99 on (actual power output was more like 300-310, 280 is that magical Japanese not to exceed number). The turbos here may well be a very limited edition off-road version, but looking at them they are too stock like to be truely custom, must have come out of the factory parts bin from another application. The turbo'd 3-Rotor Cosmo would need larger turbos than the 13B ... can anyone shed light on the Cosmo turbo specs.

All the Cosmo turbos I've seen are smaller than even the '93 turbos. The exhaust manifold is different too although it will still bolt up I believe.

The cosmo 13b used two HT-10s, which are indeed much smaller than FD turbos (which are HT-12). But the 20b used an HT-15 on the primary, with an HT-12 on the secondary.

The turbos in these pics however, are both larger than standard FD twins, but they're both the same size (they look to me like HT-15 turbos). Could it be that someone just customized these by using two HT-15s? I guess that's not too likely, as it looks like some of the piping is different too. But it makes me wonder how difficult it would be to just swap in HT-15 compressor wheels and housings...

Actually the 99 spec compressor wheels are the same as the 93-95 compressor wheels. The difference was with the RZ twins with the "zero tolerance" compressor housings which had the nylon insert built in the compressor housing. It wasn't that the wheel was smaller, just the housing has less clearance between the major and the radius of the housing. I have taken a few sets of the 99 spec and RZ twins apart and found no differences between the wheels.

Bryan, that's interesting. Some of the information that a lot of people have been using contradicts that slightly:

Um...sorry for being so cynical, but the background in your photos there is exactly the same as the ones in the original one on this thread; they look like shots from the same group of photos to me.

Well, good on ya then...

Post pics when you get them delivered. If they do turn out to be the Mazdaspeed turbos, then you'll be the envy of much of the 3rd gen forum.

The turbos you just bought have the same markings (XTR?) as these M2 BB turbos someone is selling in another thread:

it almost looks like the XTR sticker was photoshopped out of the original picture in this thread

My guess it's a remanufactured unit probably fitted with larger compressor housings, with the work done by www.gcg.com.au who do the XTR line of turbos, and accessories in Aus.

i don't think they are SP turbos. They're an upgraded version.

Mazda:-

not sure if the below is referring to the same twins but they could be twin GT28s

I think we have a winner. looks like they are the upgrade from gcg.com. they are still nice and would love to know the numbers after they are installed.
