Big problem.........please help

OK so i go to start my car in the morning and found out that i couldn't put it in gear. Once its turned off, gears go in fine. So I let it run till its warmed up and now it was able to get into gear. But its clanking and screeching at times when i hold on to the cluth while i am in gear. the car drives, but its kinda screeches when you shift into another gear. At first i was thinking my tranny was out. but then once it warm it was ok. it couldn't be the clutch cause i put a brand new clutch in it like 5000 miles ago. along with a brand new master clutch cylinder and slave cylinder. What could be the problem? please help. Oh if it helps... my 5th gear been grindin a bit for a while now.

Sounds like a pilot bearing seizing up. That could cause the not being able to get into gear from a start, and the screeching. IMO, if it were the release bearing failing, it could also screech, but you would still have been able to put it into gear.

To put it simply, the pilot bearing is pressed into the engine's eccentric shaft (crankshaft) which you can inspect and work on by just removing the transmission.

The release bearing or throwout bearing, is located on the transmission inside the bell housing. Just remove the tranny and you can see the release bearing attached to the fork that moves it when you press the clutch pedal.

Hope this helps a bit.

Get yourself a copy of the factory service manual and look at the manual transmission section. I think the pilot bearing is covered in the engine section since it goes into the eccentric shaft.

You could first inspect the bearing by removing the inspection plate on the transmission.
