Before looking into this ask yourself one question: "How am I going to register this with the DMV?"

Answer is you prolly won't unless you spend 15-30k on top of the price of the car.

Just get an Rx-7 from the states, much easier.

Actually, I have a friend that works in Japan as an auto importer. PM me and I can send you in the right direction. You don't have to spend 15k+ over the price of the car. Although to give you heads up, majorty of cars that you buy from Japan are more than likely modified already.

Huge difference between importing a car to Canada and importing to the US.

In the US its next to impossible to register, there is a good chance it will have to be a track-only car unless you are prepared for some very creative VIN work.

It is not impossible or improbable to get a car registered in the US.

If you really want an RX7 from Japan best advice I could give is hold off while the exchange rate is bad, as yen is at an all time low.

Our company (based in UK) has stopped importing for the time being as our profit would be eaten up in the exchange rate.

It is not legal to register an imported car that hasn't been tested by the DOT. You'll have to forge a VIN or register it (illegally) as a kit car.

sorry.

No - but it's illegal. As has been covered many, many times, there is currently no legal way to register a JDM FD in the US. There are, however, many illegal ways.

Canada and the UK are pretty different than the US when it comes to importing vehicles not physically produced inside the country, or specifically for importation into the country.

Canada and the UK have no problems importing cars because there is no indigenous auto manufacturers, or the ones that are in place are laughable at best when it comes to catering for the general population, catering only to a certain, high paid, crowd (Aston Martin, TVR, Noble, etc., etc.).

Sorry dude, as others in the thread have already said, it's not going to legally happen. Not with an FD at least, not any time soon.

Besides the fact, the novelty of having a car with a steering wheel on the "wrong" side of the car wears off the first time you're alone, in a drive-thru, and are in a hurry. The vehicles practicality wears off as soon as you leave the boardwalk and the short-shorts of 18-20 year old bimbo's.

I've got a LHD FD, and a RHD Escort as my vehicles here in the UK. I'm going to tell you, from personal experience, that it is *much* more convenient/safe to drive around in a vehicle where you are seated closest to the center line in the road.

very creative, and very illegal as well.

These cars get crushed here fellas, not everyone gets caught, but would you really want to roll the dice? They've been crushing cars straight off the boat in california lately. I've seen pictures of Skylines, Sylvias and RX-7s.

Why roll the dice and pay more to have an illegal car when most of the cars in japan are garbage anyway. Ask Circuit Theory, he's parting out FDs over there because they are worth more as scrap metal than they are as a car. Get a USDM one, atleast not all the FDs here have been beat to ****.

wow fella's........sorry maybe i should have given more info. i just sold my fd that i had in the states and i am now located in afghanistan and am not planing on returning to the states to live. i will be shipping it to a different country but it will not be one with all the stipulations on safety as the states have. maybe australia or thialand. so all i really need is a couple websites to check out so i can educate myself on prices and what kind of quality i can get. thanks for all the info though, i would not try to import a rex from japan to have in the states.

thanks, again

You want a J-Spec car or just RHD? I would just go to Florida like everyone else and get it there and register it. Texas doesn't have enough space to fit the J-Spec vin numbers. So I have been told.
