None of the above. ACT Street/strip clutch. Very streetable, should hold that power level with no issues. Has a full faced organic disc, similar to stock but ACT recently upgraded it from what i've heard. Stiffer pressure plate as well.

Just to point out, RP sells the ACT Street/Strip clutch under the brand "Bonez".

I have it, I love it. It's a great, higly streetable clutch.

Looking at the rx7.com website, they have the "street comp" and claim it is good up to 450 hp. I know that ACT rates theirs by torque. So I would be curious as to which setup it really is.

The HD-SS (Heavy Duty Pressure Plate, Performance Disk) is good for 402 ft/lbs
The XT-SS (Xtreme Pressure Plate, Performance Disk) is good to 451 ft/lbs

There is no reason to go overkill on a clutch. All it does is decrease streetability. Plus, With the weak nature of the FD clutch fork, I prefer the HD pressure plate over the xtreme (I realize this is just a preference, but I also like the lighter pedal feel). If you need more grab than 402 ft/lbs, you can go with a sprung 6 puck on the HD pressure plate. BUT, for 350 hp, you won't need anything more than the HD-SS. You could actually step down to the HD-MM (rated for the same 402 ft/lbs) as it has a clutch disk that won't be quite as... "grabby". But it would also work for your application. When I am buying a clutch, I buy something just a bit stronger than my engine. This way I have a nice pedal feel, and a minimally harsh engagement for my power level.

Here is the full line-up of ACT clutches (from their website) and I like how rx7store.net has most of them. Just change the part number at the end of the web address to go between their different ACT clutch kits.

Unless rx7.com is willing to divulge exactly which pressure plate and which clutch disk they are using, I would go towards getting exactly the clamping force you need.

I'd call around tomorrow and find out who has it in stock......A Spec, Banzai, rx7store, etc.

Edit: Before that, I'd call up RP/rx7.com and speak with Chris or Ari. They'll set ya up, and I guarantee they have something for your application in stock

I'll give my nod to the ACT Street/Strip clutch also. My car has been dynoed at 413 at the wheels, and it holds fine. There is not much more effort than stock. My 19 yr old sister was even able to use it with no problems. As with any clutch you definitely don't want to slip it much....I did get a faint smell of it on two occasions.

+1 for ACT as well
I have the 6 Puk sprung hub clutch with prolite flywheel. a bit much for street - probably better off with the full disc organic as mentioned above, and a streetlite flywheel would go nicely with it

also picked it up from rx7store, the guy does a good price and reasonable shipping

I blew through an ACT street strip clutch pretty easily. Granted, that was with more like 400-420 rwhp . But I still wouldnt reccomend it, lasted maybe 10,000 miles. I Upgraded to ACT 6 puck sprung

smcmr2: I doubt act street /strip clutch will hold your power for long

I'll be happy if it lasts 10,000 miles. It probably only gets driven about 2,000 a year.

+1 on calling them up.

The website is a bit out of date, they have plenty of stock at their location which isn't listed.

I've had nothing but positive experiences with RP (which is more than I can say about some of the other "primary" rx7 websites..) and I would confidently recommend them to anybody.

I picked up my clutch kit (Exedy stage 2) from them and it has been ace! (currently pushing the equiv of 400 whp in America, no slipping, no issues, nothing..)

true......if that's in your price range

I'd say ACT street/strip for stock twins and/or less than 350ish rwhp, and ACT Extreme pp with organic disc for the standard single turbo FD on pump gas thing (400-450ish rwhp).

I'm currently running a Spec sprung 6 puck and it handles the 500R fine (up to 19 psi so far) but driveability isn't up to par with my old ACT.......very light pedal pressure, I miss the firmness of the ACT.

Personally, up to 400+ ft/lbs , I would run the sprung 6 puck with the Heavy Duty pressure plate.

Definately get the A.C.T. street disk. I have driven an A.C.T. street disc and an Spec sprung 6 puck and it is no comparison. Puck clutches are way to grabby for anything but racing, makes going through a drive thru a nightmare.

You basically have to pick your poison. Puck clutches are stronger but you do sacrifice ALOT of driveability. A full disc may not hold quite as much power for as long, but is way more civil on the street. My car has no ac orpower steering but I am still not hardcore enough to go with a puck clutch.

Also, it may be marginal, but puck clutches are also harder on the transmission. Since you are not able to slip them at all, the drivetrain shock is more severe.

As I stated before. For your power level (350hp), I would recommend the HD-SS which is the Heavy Duty Pressure Plate and the street/strip disk. You will have good pedal feel and enough "grab" for your power. According to ACT, the HD-SS is rated for up to 402 ft/lbs. I have not run that much torque, so I cannot vouch for the validity, however, numerous FD owners have run the HD-SS in the 350hp range and not had problems.

when spring rolls around I should have my methanol kit installed im looking to be at around 525 to 550 rwhp so im thinking about the ACT ZX3-HDG6 or the ZX3-XTG6. I have had the ACT unsprung 6 disk and it was like a switch very unmanagable on the street. What would you guys recommend?
