best silicone hoses?
I was thinking about using viton hosing for a vacuum line job, but due to price concerns I think I will use high quality silicone hose instead. Which supplier has the best stuff? I don't need neon colors or anything either.
I've been told that baker precision is better than silicone techniques..
also, are your basic nylon zipties good enough or is there an alternative?
thanks for any info.

THere's a guy on the forum that made some kits which are on ebay (I beleive it's $300). If you're planning on keeping the twins for a long time then those would be a good choice.
Personaly, I think there is too much worry about gas and oil. If you don't have a leak, then there won't be a problem.
The Durable that Ron K Miller has mentioned seems like a very good choice if you don't want to spend the above coinage.
I used 10' of Baker for $15 but only the rats nest. I did not need zip ties since they are very snug. They are also very thick, so I don't think zip ties will secure them.
If you are doing it yourself, you're engine is being rebuilt or you have a vacuum problem then do it. Otherwise, you are wasting your money just to have pretty F&F colors in yer engine bay.

All you need is 10' of 4mm and 2' of 6mm but if you wanna be safe then get 15' and 5'. There's a few that you should leave alone (the preformed ones). The Baker hose did not kink when in a loop but it did when twisted. I only did the rats nest and not all the possible replacements. PM Ron K Miller on the Durablue stuff. I can't find his post on it in the search.
After several years (5 years as of last month) of using silicone hose for my rat's nest, I have come to the conclusion the nylon ties are not needed. The hose had held up pretty well, too. I work on my car fairly often and have not been using nylon ties for hoses when I remove or replace (chewed it up while working on car or something) them. I've never had a hose come off on its own.

I'm pushing 6 years. Never needed tie wraps and never had a problem with detoriation, ripping, etc.
Have had the UIM off 3 or 4 times and I've always inspected everything.
The key is to getting a THICK walled silicone hose. The thin walled versions WILL crimp on you and tear much easier.
Just puttin my few cents in, I'm also using the Baker Precision hoses. I've busted my hands several times trying to remove them.
I haven't had them on the car as long as other guys, but they have held up very well so far.

You can navigate through the site and find out it is like 118 dollars for the entire kit.

The Hose technic's kit is to do the "entire" engine bay. It includes zip ties, cutter, etc. I used a sharp razor and it sliced fine. It's about $160 shipped and prolly enough for two cars.
If you guys with extra measure what you got then you could sell it. At least 12' of 4mm & 4'of 6mm for rats nest. Sell a little extra incase of wrong sized cuts and theres some lines on the intake pipe you can replace. So maybe 20' of 4mm and 6' of 6mm would be plenty.
Two of you guys that live close by could probably split the High Temp silicone stuff and do it at the same time.
This is similar to what I did using 10' but I have some stuff blocked off and didn't replace the preformed hoses...
And here is what you could do with the entire hose technics kit but this is more then just the rats nest...

and in their last pic you even see the Robinetti/Home Depot boost control hose...

P.S. Maybe it's me, but I could not figure out how to order off their site. Navigation of the site is not the best. It could be more user friendly.
Ditto again. I've had the Baker stuff for a while now and none of them are ziptied or glued on or anything else. I have absolutely never had a silicone hose fail or blow off; it just doesn't happen.
Silicone or Viton..This question will remain for years to come. All I can say is Silicone is not suited for use in fuel or oil. Some of you had some bad rotten hoses due to the contamination. That was the reason why we came up with the Viton RX7 Kit. If the kit is too big then we can sell it by the foot if needed.
Silicone cannot be compared apples to apples. There are several different ways to catalyze silicone. We chose to use Platinum because of it's superior physical properties.
I used to make hose techniques hoses. Two words comes to mind "PROFIT MARGIN!"

^ That would be cool. Otherwise just a smaller kit maybe or even a mixed kit ...Viton for the rats nest and colored Silicone for all other stuff. If I could have just bought 10' of your stuff I would have done that instead.
I have tons of 3.5MM and 8MM viton hose in stock. I am running low on 4MM and 6MM.
I made the kit based on what everybody wanted. Because we make both silicone and Viton, I can make a "Hybrid" kit but I need to know what is needed in what material.
