Agreed. The stock BOV is not a problem area on these cars. It does the job. Aftermarket ones are just for flash and noise. If you want noise, just take the hose of the vent side.

Its a loud whoosh. The whoosing noise is lower in pitch than the aftermarket ones. This is probably due to the larger exit.

Sounds like dumping a bucket of water off the side of a 5 story building. When the water hits the pavement, thats the sound you get. Kinda sexy, and it scares the hon-duh kids.

you can just buy a $50 bov on ebay if you just want noise, I have one its nothing fancy just makes a loud PSHT sound, it gets the job done :P I kinda want an SSQV though because they sound so unique.

Why not record the sound, and play it as loud as you want on your car stereo. That way you could listen to it any time you want ........... even when the engine is off

I'm in full agreement with Adam here...I would so damn tired of listening to that **** every time I backed off the throttle a little bit. Especially those REALLY annoying squeaky sounding BOVs....

I love the sound of BOV's, but I have the stock one. It still sounds nice, and I've gotten compliments from people on how it sounds (who had no idea it was stock), so I'm not one for wasting money on a bov when I can save it for much better things. There's no point for a aftermarket bov on stock boost. Get your FD and see how it sounds first. If you dont like it then I would suggest a Greddy type s, just cuz I love how it sounds :-P. I was planning on getting one too until I first drove my car and heard the stocker :-D.

Not sure if it was just my stock bov was f&^%ed, but mine leaked like a sieve unless I was at WOT.
Replaced it with a GoFastBits valve (made in Australia - not sure if you have them up there) and everything is sweet

Car is a whole lot quicker when half your boost isnt leaking out

I have the HKS SSQV on one FD. I do like it because of the unique sound but it does kind of wear on me. I mean that freaking thing is going off all the time.

RP has a greddy kit that works with the stock ones. I would say look in to that as an idea.

There's a 1" diameter pipe running from the middle of the Y-Pipe (at least on my jap '97) to the left side of airbox... you can unplug it from the airbox and you will hear the 'woosh' you speak of.
You'll need to plug the hole it leaves in the airbox though, otherwise it can suck in unfiltered air.

You may also find your engine will get covered in oil mist
