I'm about to buy another car and I'm having trouble finding a aftermarket warranty that will cover twins... anyone have some recomendations?

Give Western General a call. The previous owner had a warranty put on my car. They were great and paid for rebuilt twins, rebuilt tranny, and $5k towards a rebuilt motor.


I believe it was 1200 bucks for 2 years or 20k miles. He had the platinum coverage that was good for turbo cars. Plus they have coverage for rotary vehicles so you won't get screwed. All that was on the car was cat-back exhuast and they didn't care at all. They even pay for towing, rental car and travel expenses. I'm not too sure if they will still cover a FD that is 10 years-old. It's worth a shot though.

I think your luck will soon be running out... personally if I was an insurance company...I would not cover cars approaching the age of 10..which ALL of our cars are pretty much by now...

 

GE does. When I got mine, it had a little bit left of a warranty from them.

 

Before you buy, read the contract CAREFULLY. My engine was diagnosed with a coolant seal problem, so I took it to get a second opinion. Since I drove it to get a second opinion instead of towing it (the car seemed to drive ok at the time), I violated a clause in contract and the warranty company refused to pay for my engine.

I talked to a lawyer, and he thought that he could win the case, but collecting the judgement would be hard since the company didn't have any assets in the state.

So, read the contract and try to find a company based in your state.

 

The best one? Any one that will actually give you a warranty...

Hate to burst your bubble, but like the other guys said, it's gonna be damn near impossible to get a warranty on an FD now. Warranties have limits on mileage and age. Mileage is usually under 100K miles, and age is usually 9 years and less. You must meet BOTH requirements.

What Railgun69 is talking about is a pre-existing warranty. That's not a problem...the warranty doesn't automatically run out once you pass 10 yrs...that's not how it works. It's that you can't BEGIN a warranty if the car is 10 years old. But lets say your car is 9 yrs old and it qualifies, you could get a 2 year warranty, that would cover it through it's 11th year. But you just can't BEGIN that coverage on the car if it's past the 9 year mark. See the diff??

I'm real curious to see if you can renew a warranty after the 9 year mark... although it prob won't stay "platinum" coverage, prob just powertrain, but that's still great. Guess there's one way to find out...

dtn666, what the warranty company did was super shady, but they're basically saying you did not do everything in your power to limit the extent of damage, and are claiming that by further driving your car again (to get that 2nd opinion), you incurred further damage. Further from what point? Who knows..they're bluffing so they don't have to pay. Prob is, like your lawyer told you, it's freakin HARD to prove them wrong, since they can't even prove you wrong either, BUT they can just *claim* it and refuse to pay. So unfortunately you got suckered...sorry

 

I had a warranty that I purchases thru a dealer when I bought the car. I think I paid like 1400 for it and I know I put over 5000 on it the only bad thing was there was still things that they didnt pay for like the dealer insisted on replacing all the nuts and studs while replacing the intake gasket and I had to pay that out of pocket. But they paid all the labor

 

A savings account.

I don't believe in warranty and insurance, because they are really slow in reimbursing your car if there's something wrong with it. Friend of mine just bought a 2003 tibby, new, straight out from the dealer. It had 10 years warranty on it, guess what after 3 months, one of his speaker goes kaput!

he went back to the dealer and wanted the dealer to fix it, the dealer gave him all the shitty reason and expect him to pay some of the cost for the parts and labor. I was laughing my *** off as he's stupid enough to buy a new car and believe everything that the dealer said!
