Go to the WEST section and talk to Ben his username is Karack. He runs a shop named Rotary Evolution up in yuba city. 4 star mechanic and tuner; ask around.

Definitely call Ben Super work ethic and absolutely the best prices in town! My rebuild was a ton cheaper than what you've been quoted ( I did pull my own motor though) and he nothing short of a perfectionist! Great guy to have when it comes to rotories!

Good luck!

Will do. Thanks to everyone for your input. Just sucks that I'm so anxious to start the process but have to wait until I get the money situation straight. I'm aiming for the beginning of summer. Will give an update once I get eventually get started.

+1 for taking it to Rich. He's a straight shooter and wouldn't steer you wrong. $9k for a streetport is ridiculous.

I would suggest finding another shop. The expert sounds like a mega-***. $9000 could build a high horse power engine (if your's is not blown). For 9k you could call up most rotary performance shops and get a very potent engine.

I have talked to Rick about a rebuild before, and he quoted me 6g's for removal, install, new housing, all gaskets and seals (except apex seals, because I would be going NRS Ceramic), 3mm rotor machining and a street port, etc... Rick has been doing street ports for Rotaries, for a long time, and have found a template which he knows works well with passing our freaking cali sniffer test. Give him a call, and he'll break it down for you.

Hey, I looked at mazdatrix website for a rebuild and they have a lot of the details in what it will cost for this project. Look it all over to give yourself an idea of what to ask about when you do decide to get the motor rebuilt with or without a port job.

Here's the website: http://www.mazdatrix.com/engnum3.htmhttp://www.mazdatrix.com/engnum3.htm

don't try to make more power if you can't afford it, in terms of both time and money.

Please PM rich(goodfella) or ben (karack) ben is local, only a hour or two from you and is very reasonable I believe his basic rebuild (you pull out and install the motor) starts at 3,000 and a ported motor goes for 3,300 or 3,400. Don't let your self get screwed.

Thanks for all the votes of confidence guys. I couldn't do it without Ihor, we're a two man show .

Mavrick, your best bet is to look into Karack. I've heard nothing but good stuff about him, and he's local to you, so it's a no-brainer.

Yeah, i was just at Ricks Rotary this weekend for a tune up. They did a great job, and fixed some problems with my car for free. I mean when i rolled up, i saw 4 FDs, 4Fcs, and 3 FBs, no joke. Rick really knows whats up, see what he says. (Oh yeah, he told me his rebuild is like 5600, but he replaces ALL the old parts, including hoses, sensors, etc.)

I can build you an all brand new engine with street port for way less than $9k. Thats using all new parts which is still not by any means necessary.

FWIW there is no such thing as a bullet proof build with these cars. Especially if you are wanting to modify the car. I would spend about $3-4k on a new housing street ported motor and save the rest for New wiring Harness, New Slave cylinder, New Master Cylinder, New Suspension bushings, all new injectors, fuel pump, basically everything that really matters in the engine bay and for the comforts of a daily driver. After you drove that near $10k, expect to enjoy the car for 40-80k miles before repeating process.

9k may be spot on depending on what is included. Remember it's a 14 year old car that likely has alot of issues and the shop owner is probably just quoting his average total job total that includes stuff like a ported motor with new internals, new harness, clutch, cleaned injectors, rebuilt turbos, new fuel pump/filter, all new rubber parts, etc ... or it could be an *** raping. Getting it done by an individual that knows what they are doing is always better, the hourly rate for an individual is way better than at a shop and you never know if the shop tech working on your car gives a **** or knows **** about your car.

Start investigating individuals or shops and get to know them by having some simple work done, building a relationship with your mechanic is a must if you are to own a stout FD without doing the work yourself.

Until he gets a price break down of what's included, I think everyone needs to stop with the "I can build one for you for less than $9000".
