Battery Relocation....what did i do wrong?

ok so i ran my positive wire to the lug on the back of the starter, and as soon as i connect the ground to the chassis the starter motor starts spinning...its not throwing the gear out and spining the engine, just the starter it self....

A

B feeds the motor directly - it will spin but not engage

A connects to the solenoid which is switched by the starter switch. This engages the pinion with the flywheel before spinning the motor.

I think that's right looking at the diagram, but in any case, hook it to the one you didn't hook it to first.

Don't take power from the starter. Yes it can be done, but I don't like running battery cables underneath the car. It is too easy for it to short out. I suggest running it to the fuse box that connects to the positive battery terminal.

EXACTLY!...spend the $1 on a 2 gauge cable terminal and do it properly.

i don't have a clue why you were hooking it up to the starter...that way sucks

It works, but I feel its dangerous to run batteyr cable exposed under the car. It can easily get damaged.

Umm, where do you think that (A) wire goes? He's just saving a few feet of wire by connecting it to the (A) post.

Unless you have installed a breaker near the battery, the cable is unfused all the way back to the fuseblock. Do you think that is a good idea?

I would hope he had enough common sense to install a fused/breaker connection...

with a circuit breaker in the power line a few inches from the battery, then going to the starter is a great way to hook it up. as was said you just went to the wrong terminal

It does, but all the ones I've seen they ran the possitive cable along the length of the car and to the starter. Its sloppy and dangerous.

Just have to ignore that guy sometimes Efini, don't attempt to argue with him, he's always right.

There is something strange going on here because I hooked my positive battery cable to the "B" in the diagram shown above almost 2 months ago and I have not had any problems to this day. Are you sure that there aren't any wires touching anywhere near the other two terminals "A" and "#3" in the diagram?

I take that back, upon going out and actually looking under my car I did hook it up to the "A" terminal. It's the one that actually runs back to the fuse block.

ok you guys do know the fuel lines run under the car right? there is plenty of space to put the wire and secure it in the plastic cover that runs dangerously under the car

Wow, you don't even know me but you have taken it upon yourself to inform everyone about me... since you say I'm always right, then you should know when I say you need to move along and go play elsewhere, that's stated in your best interest.

this can def. be seen in two ways. More protected yes, potentially fatal: YES!

Not that I see it happening but anything that would end up severing both (maybe an accident) would result in exposed gas and a spark. You do the math.
