Battery Draining: Fuel Pump running with ignition off

It has been along time since I have messed with my FD but I have had a battery drainage issue due to my fuel pump continuously running without the key in the ignition or anything.

My FD is in Florida at the moment so it's difficult to go outside and check these things right now. But I am about to make a trip this week to go fix this issue and drive it back down here to Texas which is why I'm trying to get an idea of what I should look when I go down to Fl

So what I've done so far....

I used Dale's method of rewiring the fuel pump when he first did his post. The issue was not occuring at that time. I double checked my wiring and it was exactly like Dale's.
There was alot of work done on my car in Houston and at the time they rewired the fuel pump in the trunk. Not sure if they just changed the wiring or what but I can't confirm anything atm. However, I wasn't encountering this "continuously running fuel pump" when I got the car back from getting the work done. But this is what I am going to first check when I get down to FL.
Also, last time I was in FL, I pulled the EFI/Fuel Pump relay and it turned the fuel pump off.

I am also running into an issue that seems like a fuel cut when fully accelerating around 4000k. I read somewhere that this might be caused by a bad Fuel Pump Relay.

I was thinking that the relay just might be stuck. Causing the fuel pump to stay on. I believe AHarada was having a similar issue.

I'm going to double check all the wiring when I get down to FL this week and also test the relay. That should tell me what the issue is I think but I was just wondering if someone else had input as to what the issue might be.

Thanks,
D

Yeah, most likely a sticking relay. The fuel pump is being fed now straight from the battery and if the relay sticks closed it will just keep a'runnin'.

Chuck told me you posted so I jumped on the forum, not here often.

I do not recall how we rewired the pump to get full battery voltage as there are several ways we've done this and your car was here so long ago that I just cannot recall. If the pump is running without key power or without the car running then a relay is sticking for sure. On most cars I defeat the speed relay so not sure what might b happenning at 4k except that's when the car is fully spooling the turbo so perhaps it's overboosting?

GL, I'll PM you my email addy

Having an extensive electrical back-round I would wonder about the circuits integrity. I am speaking of the side of the relay which powers up the pump. In some cases I have run into wiring or a pump which is drawing more amperage than it should. I have found the relay contacts get hot and stick together. A simple amperage draw test will answer any questions regarding the circuits condition.
