I took the top of the motor apart and pulled the insulators out-

 

I'd say you need some new ones

Those are pretty beat. How long ago did we rebuild your engine? We installed brand new ones, mos def.

 

Yeah they look pretty shot, you guys did the rebuild about 2 1/2 years ago. I'm hoping this will fix the issue.

I got the car running again and it still has the same issues. I've replaced the insulators and found that the vacuum line to the FPR was disconnected and hooked it back up but no change. Could the FPR have gone bad?

 

you sure your primary injectors are good ?

 

They were perfectly fine before I removed them to do the FPD install so I'm assuming that hasn't changed.

Also, when the fans come on now the idle becomes rough and there's some electric buzz coming from under the UIM every so often...

 

The buzz is just a solenoid under the UIM cycling. Not part of the problem.

Yes, from what I read removing the FPD should make no difference, however, I'm tempted to get a new fuel rail and FPD to see if that's the issue.

 

I'll bet it's a problem with the injectors sealing and letting fuel into the engine..... removing the FPD won't cause this problem.

That's good to hear, I'm going to order some new o-rings and pintle caps and see if that gets rid of the smoking.
