Bad secondary turbo seal or worse?
My 94 base has 39,500 miles, is mostly stock and runs well, but when I installed a downpipe, I noticed that the secondary turbo's blades and exhaust passages were covered with soft dark soot, while the primary turbo blades and passages looked dry and cleaner in comparison. I saw a small puddle of liquid oil inside the Y-pipe when I had the ducts apart, and the inside of the intercooler inlet ducting is a little oily.
Also, for a long time, the secondary turbo has had a small external oil leak (a drop or 2 on the bottom of the compressor housing), but it is not from the oil line. It doesn't leak enought to ever hit the garage floor.
There is some blue/grey smoke out the exhaust pipe on start up and when I first get on boost, but otherwise the exhaust is pretty clear. The smoke on start-up is worse the longer the car sits between starts.
Will an oil catch-can in the PCV line cure this, or is there a bad seal inside the secondary turbo, or is the oil source inside the engine itself? If it is the turbo seal, will it just get steadily worse or will it grenade?
