Question Bad to rev engine?

I want to know if it is bad to rev the engine because according to the owner's manual you should never rev the engine equipped with a turbo charger.

WTF?

Yeah, that 8000 rpm redline and 6500 rpm power peak are just for show. None of us rev our cars over 3000 rpm.

Do you mean revving while sitting in neutral?

Well, the car will blow off anything past around 4 PSI to not overwork the turbos without engine load. I imagine though, as long as the car is warmed up, there isn't a lot of harm that can happen. Although I'm not sure why you would want to do it (for a prolong period of time that is).

Heck, we all have to do it at sometime while fixing problems on the car. The manual also says not to use Synthetic oil which a lot of people do so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I'm not sure what chapter of section of the owner's manual your referring to but Mazda thinks it is OK to rev it up so go for it.

Run it hard, change the oil often (like every 1500-2000 miles) and drive it mellow for the last couple miles before you shut it down. End of story.

Thanks for the advice turbojeff, and may I add-"and let the turbo timer do its job."

I apologize for my sarcasm (sincerely). If you go back and read your question again, you could see how it could be interpreted as a silly question.

I'm not sure what you mean by "the beef continues". Have I pissed on your parade before?

On the turbo timer...

I actually think they do more harm than good. If you drive off boost for the last few miles the engine compartment gets lots of airflow. This cools the coolant and engine compartment in general.

Watch the temp guage while the car sits and idles, it'll rise up to 226F before the fans come on.

I've been seriously playing with turbo RX7s since '96 and really believe that turbo timers are a waste of $$.

Perhaps the warning is to prevent people from overrevving their engines. Especially with the stock flywheel, it revs up slowly at first and then revs up exponentially quickly as the revs rise. If you aren't expecting it, it would be easy to rev right past redline.

Does running into the rev limiter during boost cause any problems? It seems that the rev limiting fuel cuts would let it run extremely lean for a split second. Or does it blow of fast enough?
