Backfiring

Is back firing normal for the rotary engine or am I having problems. I can get a good pop from the exaust when i am going along at a low RPM then disinguage the clutch. It also seems to do it more when it is real hot out. I dont have a lot of mods, just a CB, DP, and a PFC. Is the main cat getting clogged or is one of the settings wrong on the PFC? I got the computer new and I havent changed anything on it yet. Also the DP is a larger diameter than the cat so it is going from a big pipe to a small one. And I just replaced that gasket with a stock one. Maybe its not holding well enough? Thanks for any help.

My car was backfiring a lot too before i installed the power fc. It still backfires occasionally but not as often. I figure after i get it tuned properly it will go away. Maybe you should get yours tuned.

Spurs? whos that? I didn't know there was any basketball after the pistons lost. At least there isnt any basketball that matters. Is there any way to cut down on the backfires, other than running it leaner? Or at least if it is going to do it, give me some flames.

I laugh whenever my car backfires because it scares the hell out of my girlfriend.

From what I've read, a midpipe will get you flames, but you'll want to get the PFC tuned to make sure you don't get lean. I'm staying away from a mp 'cos I'm on the stock ecu. There's loads of info on this topic all over the forum.

The Spurs need at least one championship during a full season. But they'll probably choke.

Yea they probably will choke. They just have to remember there are four quaters in a basketball game. My goal isnt the flames. I just want to get rid of the popping. Would a mid pipe help this at all? I kind of wonder if I have an exaust leak.

Well, as said before, a certain amount of backfiring is normal, but it could be a vacuum leak that's causing you to run rich. I'm running the EFI cpu, and I never backfired, until I got a leak. It could just be tuning for you as well though. I wouldn't get a mid pipe just to help the backfire issue(if that's what you mean).
Go Spurs. They'd better not choke. I hate that they can't hold a lead. I don't like NJ, and they're tough enough to beat San Antonio.
How about the Veteran Steve Kerr?

Rotary back fire all the time, but I noticed also that afetr gettin a PFC it went away...But if you pull to redline then clutch it will backfire like crazy...Its a symptom of running lean on piston engine but not as bad with rotary I think because they just tend to do it naturally...

I have to admit Kerr did have a nice game last night. So did jackson. I actually just fixed a boost problem and it seemed to make it backfire more. The hose was missing that went to the charge control actuator to the..., I guess it would be the lower intake manifold. Kind of sucks if this is normal. I hate pulling away real easy and getting it. I don't get it nearly as much at high RPM's. So theres no chance of it being an exaust leak? Thanks for the help guys. Your making me feel a little better.

Mine is backfiring more since my airpump is going bad especially when cold. Hopefully a new airpump will fix this.
