Lightbulb Back from the shop...new cluth/flywheel, boosts differently

Just got my FD back from having the SRx7.com Indigo clutch, ACT HD pressure plate and 9.5lb Aluminum flywheel package installed. And I love it! After some of the things I had read I was worried that I would be making things too extreme for a daily driver, but it's now the way it should have come from the factory! Clutch engagement is now very crisp, but not so binary that you can't finesse it around a parking lot. And the flywheel lets you rev off of idle so much easier, blipping the gas for downshifts is so much quicker, and it winds out a lot faster too. I'm pretty sure I'm on the verge of breaking the tires loose when the second turbo comes on in second gear (you can feel the car start yawing). I'd recommend the chagne to anyone that's comfortable playing with the gas while the clutch is in. (And for a good laugh, be sure to let your friends that are used to Civics try to drive your car...really gives them an appreciation for your driving skills!)

An interesting side-effect of the installation is that I had a nasty rattle in my exhaust that I asked them to see if they could fix. They ended up shaking some pellets out of my cat (uh, yeah, it's just an off-road car... ). I once was having very unsteady boost patterns, always above 10 but with cold weather causing spikes in the 13-14 range. Once I got the car back I was seeing a rock-solid 11lbs. But the car felt a little sluggish. After driving it over the weekend I'm now getting a steady 13lbs of boost and it comes on faster....and my rattle's back. Guess the pellets have jiggled around some more and I'm getting increased flow. Looks like it's time for a new one...or maybe a midpipe (I yearn for a little flamage!).

Anyway, although now it seems obvious, I didn't realize the cat would have such an effect and hadn't seen anything posted relating it to the boost.

That was what I was worried about but now I wish I had gotten one when my clutch was put in. Glad you like it now try to find those pesky pellets!

The other thing that I meant to mention is that the flywheel is truly a work of art. I was dumbfounded when I opened the box. The last flywheel I put on a car was just a rust colored machined steel piece. The srx7 aluminum flywheel is anodized red with SR Motorsports engraved around its perimeter and a black starter gear. And the steel friction plate is held with allen bolts instead of rivets, which I've read is important. My mechanic races Fords and he was highly impressed.

I shopped around and it didn't seem like SRX7 was really out of line with their prices, either. They shipped me absolutely everything that was needed which is nice since I would have surely forgotten something if I'd had to piece it together myself. They'll definitely be getting more of my business in the future.

Yeah, I got the SR #9.5 flywheel and ACT clutch and love it - the car does accelerate faster even though nothing really shows on the dyno. The HD clutch is just about the same foot pressure as stock too. Definitely a good setup and mod if your stock clutch is going.

Big Nap, the complete kit was $918, with $31 shipping. Keep in mind if you price the equivalent at other places that this comes with the necessary counterbalance from an auto FD, the pilot bearing and seal, the throwout bearing, pressure plate, clutch, flywheel, and all necessary bolts (oh yeah, and some stickers I won't be using...). I paid my mechanic $400 to put it in and fix my exhaust rattle. That may be high on labor since I didn't bother shopping around because I like the guy doing it and know I can trust him. That's worth some extra money to me...

May sound like a lot of money, but when I asked what it would be to put a stock clutch back in (using same flywheel), it was going to be $500 in parts alone. Figure anything that I have to replace needs to be upgraded!
