I was shocked to find out that they make a LATCH tether anchorage retrofit kit for the FD. This will allow you to secure a forward facing baby seat more effectively. Here is the part number: FD01-57-77XB. Not sure they are still available so you'd have to check.
I was actually looking for the LATCH kit for my MPV and my dealer found a listing dated April 7, 2000 which shows the tether kits for all Mazda cars...
