I believe you can get a reman (remanufactured) engine for around $1900 from Malloy Mazda, and Pineapple racing.
That is with a good core.
I think it is very expensive to buy a new crate motor.
Also, on the reman engine, you will need to have the motor pulled, or do it yourself. And in the course of installing the new motor, you will have to replace lots of gaskets and other small things. So, that will add cost.
