Automatic transmission

Hello all
I would like to here from those who have ...have had...or know.

Ok! I sold my 1st gen and In have found a very nice 94 TT with well thought out mods.
This car has an Auto trans, I have built and have had many cars but have never had an automatic in a sports car.... My question is, and I know it all depends on what you like.
Are these reliable transmissions and are they capable when running hard, or are they a true slug-o-matic power robber like most auto transmissions.
Should I stay away or should I play.
Paul

They seem reliable. I have a customer who is making some very good power for an auto(360~ish rwhp) and its holding up just fine. We are going to find out just how much it can take soon...

I like mine, have had no issues and making ~300 rwhp. Driven right, which means learning all about the proper use of the 'hold' feature and you sacrifice very little to the 5 speed.

Some will post about how true sports cars have a clutch, but to each their own, I say.

GENERALLY speaking, the automatic FDs you find for sale are in far better overall condition than their manual tranny brothers.

Most definitely agreed. I've become quite the fan of the "hold" button on top of the gear selector. It'll keep the car in that gear past redline, similar to a slapshift. I have a lot of fun with my automatic, and have even found a couple of fun tricks to make the most of my clutchless situation.
