Automatic FD wont shift going WOT Any ideas why?
A local FD owner contacted me about a problem he is having in his auto 93'. Hes running a big single and with his set up he is easily pushing 400+ HP. He says that when he goes WOT, the car will accel till redline and it wont shift unless he lets off the gas a bit. He has to do this process repeatedly when driving aggressively. I think he's running too much hp for the stock auto. I dunno if this is common or maybe its a ecu thing? He aslo says that his PFC isnt quite tuned correctly either. Maybe there’s a correlation with the problems? N e ideas or upgades we should look into?
Thanx

I'm not sure based on the info given what gear he is red lining in? I have an auto also. Sounds to me that he is red lining in third and when he lets off the touque converter is just locking up which seems like it is shifting, but with out more info I can say for sure. One thing I can say is it won't last long with 400 plus hp and then his problem will go away.

It does this in all gears. The only thing i can think of is that it shifts when he lays off the gas becuase hes decreasing hte power. So its prob just too much hp... By the chance that it isn't, do you think a new torque converter or something can help solve the problem?

Well, then I have no idea? I know the PFC removes the ability to use the hold function. What else the stock ecu did in relation to the auto tranny is alot to research. If I understand the PFC is a stand alone ecu right? Is this his first time running the car after the switch to the PFC? I have no experience with an auto and the PFC. I use a PFS pink ecu which is just a piggy back deal. OLD SCHOOL!
