automatic?

I am in the market for a 1993+ RX-7, but find many that are equiped with automatic transmissions. Were that many really made with AT? Is it difficult to convert them into manual?

I don't think that many RX7s were automatic, most were manual. But it could be the owners now want manuals and thus are selliing their automatics for more of a sporty feel.

To the second part of your question, AT-->MT isn't that easy. Some people are trying it now. IT's basically getting the parts and the labor down. It seems it can cost as little as 2K or as much as 4K.

I highly suggest you do a search since this topic comes up at least twice a week.

the selling price for an outo should be a few grand less than a mnaul because there simply is less demand for it. As far as the labot, you have to buy all the parts fot the manual tranny (about 1100 bucks) and then spend on the labor (a good price would be 1200), for more info on the switch check out sevenspeed.com and ask George Dodsworth, he's done a few.

I recall the figure being somewhere around 12% of US production FD's are autos. Interestingly enough, it seems like more than half the cars available FS at any time are auto.
