This intake won't work as well as a modified stock airbox. The opening is in a very poor position. There is just not much air available where the intake opening is.

Supernaut 08-26-09 08:40 AM

I guess we will see. Or at least I will see soon enough! I think you said that in the other thread to didn't you? Your the guy that did the cool airbox mod for people right?

ptrhahn 08-26-09 08:50 AM

I would think that this relies on your having the 99+ intake slot in the bumper to feed air into the area from which it draws. Still though, it seems like quite a space consuming apparatus for a relatively small intake opening.

Supernaut 08-26-09 10:04 AM

Hey man! Are you talking about the autoexe intake?

I think it also pulls from the regular opening as well. Take a look at that diagram to see where the air is drawn from. Alot of people have ducting to cover that top part so that air doesnt escape over everything. I think this intake sorta capitalizes on that. If you read the discription of the intake, say one of the features is that it helps redirect more air to the rad and intake as well.

From what I have read this unit will not work with a FMIC, I will be able to confirm this when I order mine in the next couple weeks.

As noted, this is mostly an aesthetic upgrade, the intake is a work of art and I would almost feel bad putting it in a dirty engine bay. Is it better then a m2 intake or another enclosed intake? Maybe, I would think the slight airflow should help, but you arent going to notice a huge difference in performance.

The only other intake that was more expensive then the Autoexe was the GruppeM which was somewhere around $1500 and was discontinued in 2003.

Would this, then, require that you keep the stock IC duct (where the stock intake draws air), or modify any aftermarket duct similarly, and thus draw air away from your intercooler?

haaa. Possibly. It looks like the M2 duct won't work, I'll see soon enough. I think the air it grabs is air that would pass the intercooler and thus not hit it anyway. Im not to sure of this but this is the impression I got.

FD3S2005 08-26-09 04:47 PM

it was just a thought to give the intake a little more air, even it would be just a little bit.

I just got the autoexe intake...

Its alot smaller than it looks in the pictures above. Here is a dollar bill along side it for scale.

Attachment 759319

The intake will be fitted in about 1 - 4 weeks.

purerx7 09-11-09 06:32 PM

thanks for telling me you received it :(

Supernaut 09-11-09 07:07 PM

My bad hahaha. I just got in. I took the pic as soon as I got home. Thank you so much for shipping it so quick man!!

7passu 11-14-09 11:14 PM

i like the looks of the intake...looks really good to me. Also the abflug bumper has a big slot in the top/center that would be real nice for intake duct....even with this intake set-up it would direct air to the area it draws from big time here it is

OK, so did you ever install this? What's the scoop? (pun intended)

rx7slaughter 03-11-10 06:30 PM

autoexe intake

i haved this intake and it works well. i am using the stock intercooler. i am thinking of dremiling a small slit opening like the feed bumper has in my stock bumper to supply extra air. it sounds like a vaccum and makes the blow off valve audible.

buish 03-26-10 01:37 AM

how much space is there between the bottom of the intake and the top of the stock intercooler duct?

kyle_94538 03-26-10 02:34 AM

There's about 1/2 inch of clearance between bottom of intake & top of intercooler duct. It's a direct drop in unit without any modifications to your car.

Supernaut 07-20-10 01:32 AM

Yea the measurements I took on the 1st page of this thread are wrong. As goodfellas pointed out to me, the site I took the info from (fd3s.net) got the measurements swapped. I think the width and the height measurements are mixed up.

Intercooler------------------------Thickness---Width-------Height-----------Volume
__________________________________________________ ___________
Stock IC----------------------------2.5-----------11.5-----------4.5-----------129.375
ASP medium-----------------------3.5-----------12.55---------11.55--------507
ASP race---------------------------3.5-----------12.55---------17-------------746.7
Greddy Stock location-----------4.0-----------12.5-----------7.5-----------375
PFS----------------------------------3.5-----------10.4----------10.5-----------382.2
Pettit Cool charge2--------------3.5-----------10.5----------10.0-----------367.5

It looks like I am probably screwed. The smell of fail, it is strong!! We will see for sure soon.

Pics as requested in PM:

The supports are 3/4 inch cylindrical shims + 1/16 washer between the shim and the rad support.

It is all held together by a 1 & 3/4 inch bolt with a washer on top.
