Autoexe forced induction airbox...
Just wondered if anyone had any experience with this box...
This is similar to the way aftermarket CAI for the M3 are made...plus with all of the talk about performance gains with the ram air effect....this looks like a good alternative for me without having the need for ducting... The only concern I have is if it will fit in the space of a aftermarket airbox and clear a ASP medium intercooler. AND if the CAI opening will clear the ASP duct... https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attach...postid=2641131 |
and the instructions showing how large it actually is..

does it fit in the slot the IC gets it air or do you haveto cut some plastic to the left of the IC ducting area for it to fit in?

wouldnt it be called a cold air intake mod, instead of a forced induction? after all, the car is turbo charged, and i dont think a ram air intake will be able to force enough air for the turbo.
|
when did they release this for the FD?

Tim I'm not sure as I have never seen it in person and was having a hard time navigating on the autoexe website... but if you look at the instructions in the second post it looks like it just lays ON TOP of the stock intercooler duct...no cutting needed... but with the ASP medium I am worried that it wont fit either on top...and maybe tight on the side..... |

I have NO idea if this will do the same but I like the thought of this setup better. |

hmmm looking at that pic makes me think that it won't clear the pipe from the turbo to the intercooler on the ASP medium...

Doesn't look like you'd be able to use the ASP intercooler OR duct with this intake - it just takes up too much room. I'd suggest an M2-style intake:

Based on the pics I'd say that intake will only fit with the stock IC or an IC that doesn't come with it's own duct, using the stock crappy one. Again it appears just like the stock setup stealing air from the IC to use for the intake. So essentially a waste of time. I am of course basing it entirely on looking at those pictures and assuming it's attaching to the top of the stock IC duct just like the stock airbox does come to think of it. I could be wrong.

yea that's what I have right now...
I was just trying to find something alittle better... guess I will just have to work on my fiberglass/ducting skills |

I reopened the thread to get more input on the autoexe intake box. I hope you guys dont mind. Here are more fitment picks... http://www.rhdjapan.com/jdm-low/Auto...D3S-RX-7-60499 As you can see, it works great with the stock intercooler, nothing new. purerx7 did provide me with a pic with it working with the greddy SMIC. I checked the measurements and it looks like it will work on the M2 medium as well (M2 is .5 inches wider). Im not sure what duct you can use (M2, stock or fabbed) but I think it pulling air from the top will work. Attachment 718805 Its really really big. |
Curious to know if that intake will work with any of the FMIC's out there.
|
Well either way I will report back. I have an M2 Medium SMIC and will be getting the autoexe intake. Probably get it installed in sept. :(. If anyone has more info that would be great though.

wow back from the grave....I am probably going vmount with the knighsport kit.

I think the M2 medium is about the same size as the older style pettit coolcharge II? Anyway, I wonder if it would work with the pettit? I have the pettit intake and have even added a thermal barrier between the radiator section and the intake, but it is still pulling very hot air into the system. This looks like it might at least START with cooler air.

i have a thought the feed type 2 bumper or any bumper that has the extra slot on top has anyone ever fab up a way to maybe make it like the autoexe to connect to it and have fresh air going to the intake?

Interesting idea fd3s.
Existanz, the intake isnt that expensive. If you look around, you'll see that even at places that usually carry higher priced parts are under 1100. I think all of the local importers here have the part. As usual, I sourced from purerx7. |
i plan to find a feed type 2 bumper because i think its a sexy ass bumper and i been wanting it, and it just popped in my head for awhile now, and this thread made me say my idea. i mean we would need some one to be able to fab crap up and have a bumper like that to even think about trying it.....and hope the price would be nice and alot lower than 1000.

I imagine the opening needs to be bigger though no?
