Auto Trans ...Engine Removal???

DO you have to remove the automatic transmission to pull the motor in a 3rd Gen? Mazda manual instructs to remove the trans, but not sure if the is completely necessary? any help is appreciated!

No unbolt trans housing from engine.. unbolt convertor from ring gear( AKA flywheel) slide engine forward, keeping convertor on trans and all will be well... Carter
