Auto Tranny Question – searched
Hi, I read somewhere on this forum that there is a temp sensor/switch which goes on the filler neck housing (near the coolant level sensor), which only cars with automatic transmissions have. I believe it was for controlling “Lockup” operation.
Since owning the car (’92 jap import 3rd gen), this wire has not been connected – I thought it was the location of a aftermarket sensor that had been broken. Because of that I used this location for my own aftermarket gauge sensor.
Anyway my questions are..
1) Is this a thermosensor or thremoswitch?
2) What would be the effects if this was disconnected?
3) Could this explain why my last box went **** up?.
4) Anyone help me out with a part number please?
Thanks in advance.

Call Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda and you can get the part for about $60 ish..
It is the copper colored plug and I believe it is a thermoswitch. The tranny uses it to determine when the engine is warm, of course, but not sure what the effects are without it. I suspected mine was bad, because the plastic was cracked. When I put the new one in, I noticed better shifting and better drivability when the car was cold.
