ATF level
ATF level
Hi guys,
Some basic auto tranny questions.
When checking the oil (ATF) level, should the engine be running or not?
Makes the difference weather my tranny is a bit too full or a bit too empty.
Also how important is it with the 60-70C in ATF temperature when checking?
I just did some calm driving, when through the ranges and checked.
Thanks in advance!

The transmission should be at normal operating temperature...take it for a 15 minute spin somewhere.
I always park my car with it running, then cycle a few times between reverse and drive, with a 2 second pause in between.
Then check the fluid with it running. Pull the dipstick, wipe it off, reseat it, THEN read it. Make sure it is between the marks...DO NOT OVERFILL.
By the way, this is what the Owner's Manual recommends...I just read mine.
