Recently bought an AST from Pettit Racing (come to find out it's not the greatest) and was wondering if there are any special steps to replacing the old one. Do I need to do anything more than disconnect the stock AST, put the new one in and fill it with coolant? What about burping? the cooling system after this?

Any help is appreciated. Have only had the car for a month now and don't want to screw anything up just yet.

your able to just disconnect the hoses from the old ast and take it off. be ready for some antifreeze to spill out. just find something to plug the hoses up w/. put the new ast in and hook up the hoses and your finished.
i had to refill some of the antifreeze that i lost. when i started the car, the buzzer for the temp gauge came on. found out i had to pour antifreeze into the filler cap. i also have the pettit ast, for two years now. not a single problem.

The nipples on my Aluminum ast were slightly smaller than the stock ones.... So the hoses fit VERY loose. Make sure you tighten them real good!

 

I also used the Pettit AST.

Just a few steps to get you going quicker:

1. If you can get the top off the stock AST (mine was fused on by heat), take it off. Use something like a Turkey Baster to suck as much of the coolant out as you can before you remove any of the coolant lines.

2. You'll have a much easier time if you just go ahead and remove your battery if you still have it in the stock location.
