Assemble engine outside of car?
Hey guys,
I'll have the engine out of my 7 in the next couple of weeks for some miscellaneous work (oil pan, motor mounts, etc...). I've also ordered a turbo kit and fuel system and they'll be here in the next few weeks .
My question is, do you guys think it's easier to put everything back together outside of the car or should I wait until I have the engine back in the car?
In particular I'm wondering about putting the exhaust manifold and turbo on the engine, putting the LIM and UIM on the engine, putting the TB and elbow on the engine, etc... Of course it would be easier to put that stuff on with the engine out of the car, but then I assume it makes it tougher to get the engine back in the car.
Any thoughts or opinions?

Assemble as much as you can with the engine outside the car, there is no question it is easier and smarter (you can torque all the bolts and nuts accurately.) I've put 3 engines in now and only had to put on the down pipe and clutch slave cylinder once in place then reattach the a/c and ps pumps. BTW it is not necessary to remove these pumps at disassembly, just detach them and tie them out of the way.
