arrrgggh... FD search blues
Hi everyone,
Well, my quest to find an FD is kinda getting me down right now. I've been looking for a few months, but I live in Michigan, so it's really hard to find anything. I talked to a dealer earlier this week who said he was getting in a Silver '95 with low miles. I talked to him today, and I found out that it had a salvage title and some ugly exterior mods.
Yeah, I know that there are a lot of FDs that have been molested like that. This one just pisses me off because I really thought that it was The One, and I've been daydreaming about it all week. Did any of you guys have a hard time getting your FDs?
Anyway, sorry about the whining, I'm just frustrated and had to vent.
peace,
-matt

It took me about 6 months to a year to get my FD. Actually, my friend is the original owner of the car and he couldn't take my whining of wanting to buy his car off him, so he ended up selling it to me.

I totally hear you kid. I looked for around a month before finding mine. However, I live in California and decided on the third one I inquired about. I could've found a better car if I had been more patient, but I'm not. I hate the notion of being a "patient person." I want to live today, not eventually. Cheer up though, you'll have one soon enough. If you get desperate, make sure it isn't a salvaged title, but you already know this. God speed to you.

I have two VR's for sale a 93 and 94 that's listed on Autotrader for 24k. Please don't flame the price not in a hurry to sell but if you have the $'s you should be able to find a very nice one.

Hey Fritz Flynn,
I saw your ad and I was gonna come and take a look at your car. I didn't know you were on the forum! Your only 24 miles away from me. (closest FD for sale) Anyways that's a clean car man, I tell ya... I think it's worth the 24k IMO.

$24k isn't unreasonable for a '94 if it's perfect (and I mean perfect). Also, for that price, it would be nice if there was some sort of warranty, does it come with any sort of warranty? Which model (Base/R2/Touring) is it?
Also, do you have the VIN number?
thanks,
-matt

it took me a year....saw only two nice ones in the whole entire time....passed on the first (big mistake...even if it does belong to toadman now)...and took the second.
I went and looked at handfuls before choosing.
do NOT...I repeat DO NOT hurry when buying one of these cars..do not buy hi milage..do not buy out of your lust for the fun little rex.
you will find one...keep your eyes peeled...it will show.
good luck...happy hunting

Be Patient
I started my research and search for a 3rd Gen 1 1/2 years before I found and purchased the exact car I was after. It was worth the wait. It was also worth fighting off the temptation to buy the FDs I saw that were not quite what I was looking for.
Spend your waiting time doing more reading and research. For example, have you decided exactly what to do when you find a car you are serious about? How are you going to check it out? Are you going to get a compression test? How and where? Do you know what to look for in a test drive? Are you going to run a CarFax check? Can you look at the engine bay and determine what is a mod and what is original?
Have you even decided on the more basic things like which color you prefer inside and out? Which model do you prefer? Base, touring, R? Give some thought to all of these things and narrow down your preferences. Don't become desperate and jump at the first car that comes close to what you are after.
The car you want is out there. Just be patient.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
i agree...get as much knowledge and research about the car under your belt as possible. for example, i have just about two years of research about the FD by means of reading on the internet and talking to owners...and i still want to know more. you can never know too much information about a car.
and over these years, i found out that the function on this forum can be your best friend!

It took me a little over 8 months to find my RX. I had my hopes crushed more than a few times,( 2 R1's pulled from my hands) but i finally found the one thats perfect for me. Good luck in your search!

I almost gave up after looking at 4 FDs that were just subpar in condition. I thought there wouldn't be a prestine one. I had never bought a used car so I just didn't think any used car can be 'like-new'. I then went to see one 50 mi away and decided to take it the next day. Got a decent price too. I looked on and off for about 4 months.

Well I had been searching forever (all year) and had found a nice red 5-speed FC convert but my better judgement said to get something with airbags. I finally found a black 93' 5-speed FD but by the time I got to it, it was sold. The next day I found my 94' Montego blue touring and got it the same day.

I was just dissapointed because "low-milage 1995" sounded like something to get excited about, but it turned out to be another dud.
Zoom, btw, just got a Red 94 in that looks pretty nice.... except it's an auto. Ah well, the search continues...

I think your confused I'm in VA but thanks for the support. My 94 is very clean and professionally upgraded with about every bolt on. It has the 3 stage vr paint which still looks awesome and it was garaged most of its life. The 93 is also very clean with most of the bolts ons done at Pettit but the paint of course sucks *** even though it was also garaged.

I had similar problems as well. Patients is all i can say. These cars have a large following, people do take care of them but finding the right one can take a while. Its worth the wait to find a fine example it took me a few months to find mine. My turbo II was stolen from me last summer and was totaled when they found it. So i needed a replacement for it and started looking for an FD. At that time there were none around for sale. On the other side of my town was a kid who i went to technical school with who had a black R-1 totally stock with low mileage and he was a mechanic as well and knew how to take care of them. It wasnt forsale at the time but i had offered him a nice sum of money and a few weeks later he called me back accepting the offer (he had to think about it). So you see if you look around and take your time you WILL find what your looking for just buy one that was taken care of. You will be better off in the long run.
