Apexi Power Fc Dilemma
I want to purchase an Apexi Power FC
From a Japan based site i am looking at the Power FC and commander is $680 with base map
But from another website it is the standard price of $900 but in the notes you tell them your modifications and they will tune it for you.
Is the tuning worth the $300 or is it easy enough to do myself? What does it take to tune it for the different mods?

Tuning yourself is far from easy. However the PFC comes pretuned to some degree for basic bolt ons.
I am running an untuned PFC at 12 psi with intake/y-pipe/SMIC/downpipe/high flow cat/exhaust and am getting 10.5 AFRs and lower at high boost/rpm so still have a significant safety margin.

No, not worth it. I'd get, learn about it, ask questions, then start to tune in very small imcrements. Keep it rich, don't add timing, just take it away if your knock is high in those cells. Also watch what your knock number is, some cars tend to have high numbers while others don't.

well i have:
Apexi GT exhaust
HKS SSQV BOV
Greddy 3 piece intercooler piping
HKS Downpipe
M2 Intake
and MSD 6a Ignition/ 2 MSD HVC2 coils
so in my case the tuning would be worth the money rather then get it cheap?

mail order tuning.... just think about that for a minute. They are not looking at your A/F ratio, injector duty cycle, fuel pump nothing. They are assuming.
Get the cheaper PFC and then use the extra $$ to then pay a professional to tune it for you on a dyno or on the road. That yields the best results.
if mail order tuning was actually a good way to go, none of us would ever pay the extra cash to dyno/road tune.

It varies. It all depends on the tuner. Go to the regional forums and ask there about reputable tuning shops.
See you are asking the wrong questions. A better question is "what is the average cost of having your PFC tuned by mail order maps" I would care to answer that the average price is an engine and maybe turbos.

Dude, dont blow up your car. Go to one of the many local tunners. Prices vary bepending on how much time it takes to tune the car.
I have four quick options for you
1) PFS, Ray can tune you PFC hes not that far and has a dyno
2) KDR in PA, Dave is a good tunner and has a dyno
3) PBC in Chantilly, they dont have a dyno but they have some good techs
4) Demetrious when not busy , does a great job tunning. But no dyno at his house
Cost ? all these guys are close , I had three of them tune my FD at diffrent times over the years, all did good work. From $100- $250 is about right
