apexi gt spec exhaust info

i really like this exhaust and want to get it but had a few questions on it. I know its piping is 3.74 which is pretty damn huge. how is the sound and does it come out at an angle like th n1 or hks hiper exhaust. I dont know some of my friends tell me its to rice boy looking and kind of sounds ricey too. anyone one who has the apexi gt spec care to challenge this?

It's a very deep sound and it comes straight out, not at an angle. I have it and am very happy with it. I am sure lots of people feel the same. It's not ricey, as it has no high pitched whine to it.

The gt-spec DOES come out at an angle similar to the hks hi-per. I have a Greddy PE and just swapped it out for comparison's sake. The Greddy is prob the quietest exhaust out there given the diameter of piping, but also because it follows the stock exhaust route. The gt-spec sort of cuts out 2 of the bends right before the rear supsension. The inlet for the gt-spec is actually a bit smaller for about 9 inches and then widens.
W/o the silencer, the gt-spec is unbareably loud. Forget about it if you don't want to draw attention from the local authorities (I'm in SoCal). You won't be able to have a conversation near the car without it. With the silencer, it's much better. Still somewhat deep, but at 5k rpm+ the silencer will rattle/buzz, as it's trying to push quite a lot of air thru a single hole roughly the size of a stock exhaust tip, which defeates the purpose of getting such a free-flowing catback imho.
The Greddy is the king of the riceboy look, unfortunately The HKS hi-per won't be as good as the apexi gt-spec due to the slightly smaller tubing (3 1/4 maybe), but you won't be needing a silencer as regularly either

Must be the way you have yours mounted. Mine comes straight out the back at no angle what so ever.

It's really loud. Acceleration, decelaration, cruising, it's all loud. This is with a DP and stock cat. Your ears will ring after 30min. The silencer makes a big difference, but it's way restrictive. Just no topend whatsoever and about a 2 psi loss of boost. It sounds good though. Nice and deep. But I'm sure with a midpipe it'll sound crappy. And it does come out at an angle.

The silencer is just a canister about 6 inches long & the same diameter as the tip (fits the entire length of the tip). It's held in by 1 hex screw/nut at the bottom, and slides in and out pretty easily. It makes a WORLD of difference, but it buzzes/sputters from not havign the tightest fit ~4.5k rpm (could be just the one I'm using) It gets very dirty very quickly from all the exhaust.
I'll see if i can take some pics later

well see my dilema is i sneak out at nite with my seven haha i know that sounds gay because thats the time when all my boys come out and we go highway racing and do other fun stuff so if i can put the silencer on quickly and get out of the house and then take it off it will be a big plus. what would the sound be like if i was running the apexi gt spec a down pipe and midpipe i hear its extremley loud

Ok...the GT Spec is definitely at an angle. Its very loud with a dp and an mp. Especially at WOT. I've gotten 3 tickets even with the silencer on! But the performance is unmatched.

I wouldn't take out the silencer right after driving anywhere. That bitch gets hot as hell.

i have the gt spec and love it. its loud but not to bad. i run a single turbo, downpipe, pettit resonated midpipe, and gt spec exhaust. i heard that the hks exhaust hangs really low and it bottoms out even with stock suspension. anyways the gt spec is awesome and it is LOUD i can be heard coming about a 2 miles away.

Well, I've had the GT Spec since early 2000. The silencer have been through hell and back. With a dp and an mp the carbon deposit builds up quick. The exhaust itself is still pretty clean for being a 3 years old. So it has gone through many drag runs but its still performing.

Worth it? Not for the minimal gain of .25" over the Apexi 3.74". You are nearly doubling the price for a tiny gain in pipe width. Would you notice the difference? Not likely.
