APEXi cat backs with small diameter bottle neck section

For you guys running the APEXi cat backs that have about 1 foot of small diameter piping where it bolts to the mid pipe do you have this cut out and replaced with full sized piping or just install it as is and introduce a bottle neck into the exhaust system? I just got a exTi and I really dont want a stupid small section in the middle of the cat back thats smaller than my down pipe and mid-pipe. It seems like a really dumb design. From photos it looks like the GT-spec also has this small section as well?

That "neck down" is meant to match the stock piping diameter, since the catback is meant to attach to a stock cat section.
