I was just wondering because of the recent report for the SCCA states that closed face helmets are dangerous with airbags because of how they contact the face. Is there a temporary way to switch it off or unplug it for track days/auto-x's.

 

Yeah, unplug the connector under the steering column.

Not being in my car at the moment, can anyone elaborate on "the connector under the steering column"? I don't recall any connectors dangling under my steering column. Is this under the dash, or do I need to remove the column cover to get to the connector? Color(s)?

I searched but could not find anything more specific. Thanks!

 

you can take it out easily, there are only 3 screws holding in place and a simple connector

 

It reminds me of NASA on the last HPDE at Pocono , Saying you can't use your 4 point harness only your seat belt !

" Thats a OMP autocross 4 point harness " Rules say It's not safe !
You should have a 5 Point Harness, So if you got into a crash you won't slide
down uder the stearing wheel !

Unfortunately, in today's world, any organization sponsoring a track event must consider its liability. If you are injured and wearing the OEM seatbelts, any failure of the seatbelt is something your estate's lawyers can't attribute to the sponsor. If you are injured and using harnesses that meet SCCA standards (which is widely recognized), then the sponsoring organization is also able to deflect liability. Anything in between might be safer than an OEM seatbelt for you, but more dangerous for the organization.

 

Isnt there a fuse for the airbag ?
