Anyone using NOS?

just wondering if anyone has successfully used nos on the 3rd gen ,i think that maybe a 50 shot fogger system could work occasionally if used in short shots and not as often.has anyone used this and not had to rebuild ?

Dude, you are going to have everyone jumping on you now about

"Bottles are for babies" - "Make power like a real man!" - "Naaawwwsss is for Hunduhs!" etc. etc.

I think this also has been asked a few times so just hit up the search...should find some thread where Nos wasn't knocked.

Take it ezzzy

Oh yeah, lets not forget the one "Nos will make the passenger side floor board panel fall out if you use it" you will probably get that too.

It's Robinettes. Dave is a good friend of mine and I do not think he would ever put nitrous on his third gen.

Bottle's are for babies! Make power like a real man! Naaaaawwwwssss is for hunduhs! Nos will make the passenger side floor board panel fall out if you use it! LOL j/k, but serisouly why are you gonna use nos?! NOS is for people who can't go fast unless they use it! Yeah some people with fast cars use it but I think you should be able to win without it man. Sorry but NOS is evil stuff!

NOS

Well, I thought "nos" was just a shortened version of "nitrous oxide". Never really thought that much about it.

God, I can't believe I'm talking about this.

Just like Kleanex isnt the actual product. Its a company. Yet everyone calls FACIAL TISSUES that. its just the popular name for it because they are the most popular brand. Nos is the same way. Deal with it. I think youll be ok.

I have used nitrous on another car I owned not the rx7 personally. If I had to do it over again I would definately do it.

Espically if I had a car with a large turbo to help it spool. I see absoluely nothing wrong with it. Its more for track/ street off a light use.

I have question for the "nitrous" haters. If we were racing and I smoked you cause of the nitrous advantage you gonna use that as an excuse. If you do I could live with it cause you still lose..

Thats how I look at it....

The way I see it is using"nitrous", saying it that way for the politically correct F@GGOT's , is cheap and a type of cheating. Now, if your using it on funny cars then it's ok cause your to the point where your just going to use it because you can't push the engine any further. You SHOULD be able to win without it, but it's my personal opinion. If you like it then that's fine, I have nothing against you just using NOS, hahahaha I said it biznatch!
And if you won then it would give me something to work towards making my car faster than yours without using nitrous. So I have nothing against anyone that uses it, just the product itself, lol.

IMHO, the Nitrous Express N'tercooler kit is the way to go if you wanna spray. You can still get up to 50rwhp by using it and you don't have any of the risks of spraying into the engine. I have seen a WRX and a turbo Civic use it with great results. Just wanted to throw in my .02

Zach

P.S. When I build my next FD I will be using the N'tercooler kit. But I would never spray into the engine of a rotary. Too much of a risk of leaning out and detonating. I am trying to get around using the N'tercooler kit too though. There is a freon chilled IC design in the works right now that when ironed out will beat anything on the market today. Ok, I'm done now. Laterz.

Why is everyone saying NOS is cheating? If that's the case, isn't turbo cheating too? Only real way to do it is N/A. Isn't it?

it's actually nitrogen oxide, dinitrogen oxide, or nitrous oxide if you want to be a bitch about it

I would be careful with this. I had it on my integra, and some does sometimes get in your engine.

I thought I read on this forum that the ECU couldn't compensate fast enough for the temp drop from using an Ntercooler kit....

Won't it blow up your car if it gets shot by a bunch of machine guns too??? Personally that's why I'm not getting it. Too much to worry about...

Jeezus guys...gimme a break.

Some of you are really being ignorant about this. I kinda expected a different take considering the maturity on this board.

N20 is just like any power adder, it's designed to get more oxygen into the combustion chamber, but with an added benefit of cooling the charge...

There are three points. First, nitrous oxide is comprised of 2 parts nitrogen and one part oxygen (36% oxygen by weight). When the nitrous oxide is heated to approximately 572F (on compression stroke), it breaks down and release extra oxygen, However, it is not this oxygen alone which creates additional power, but the ability of this oxygen to burn more fuel. By burning more fuel, higher cylinder pressures are created and this is where most of the additional power is realized. Secondly, as pressurized nitrous oxide is injected into the intake manifold, it changes from a liquid to a gas (boils). This boiling affect reduces the temperature of the nitrous to a minus .127 Degrees F. This "cooling affect" in turn significantly reduces intake charge temperatures by approximately 60-75 Degrees F. This also helps create additional power. A general rule of thumb: For every 10 Degrees F. reduction in intake charge temperature, a 1% increase in power will be realized. Example: A 350 HP engine with an intake temperature drop of 70 Degrees F, would gain approximately 25 HP on the cooling affect alone. The
third point, the nitrogen that was also released during the compression stroke performs an important role. Nitrogen acts to "buff or dampen" the increased chamber pressures leading to a controlled combustion process.
It's just like any other modification...it's not cheating. You consider it cheating because of it's potential to boost your power output dramatically....what's the difference between a turbo and a supercharger.

You guys should be big on making sure everything is done correctly, we are talking about 7's here, right? When it comes to the 7, it's ALL ABOUT tuning. You can't just slap on anything, and not expect to tune for it. If you tune correctly for nitrous, it is as safe as any other modification.

Now, should you use it in a rotory? I don't know about that one. I used it because my Celica was very lacking in performance modifications...no turbos or superchargers were available at the time, and the cost to have one custom made was exorbitant. Nitrous was an easy way to instantly increase my horsepower from 190 horses to about 250 with a simple switch and going WOT.

I had my car fully tuned, with an A/F EGT gauge, S-AFC, WOT switch, and a RPM window switch. I had it fully dyno-tuned for a 60 shot with auto-heater, auto-bottle opener and a professional installation.

Would I do it again? Oh hell yes, in a heartbeat. It's cost effective, and almost like "magic" in a way, if you simply look at the instant power gains. Plus, there's less wear and tear on your engine and the components, because you're not constantly using it. Only when you need it.

I would only go to nitrous on the 7, if I have no other means, though. It's just too easy to switch the turbos out, get them tuned. I would do it if I was wanting to wring out every bit of performance potential.

In fact..I still have my nitrous kit...but I plan on selling it, or placing it in my WRX.
