Question Anyone try Magnaflow or other Catback mufflers on FD

There is simply not a whole lot of catbacks that I like a whole lot for my FD without spending a lot of money on some really awesome systems. I am currently running a full 3" turbo back but the ID within the Greddy Extreme muffler I have is reduced to only 2.25".

What are your thoughts on sound, performance of having a Magnaflow or Flowmaster muffer mounted up? Surely it's been done before. I have been leaning toward this specific Magnaflow muffler in the link below because it looks good, has a 3" ID within the muffler and it may offer a unique sound on a rotary.

What are your thoughts?

You can have a resonated magnaflow pipe in place of you midpipe that will make the sound MUCH better. As far as using either brand as a muffler, i dont think anyone has done it. Im curious to see what it sounds like myself.

Sean at Aspec built me an exhaust system using the mufflers from Coast Fab and I could not be happier. They are packed with the correct material to take the high EGT's from our rotary. Additionally, they are rebuildable down the road and very very light weight. Coast Fab makes them for Burns btw.

I am running a single two stage muffler and it may be a little loud for some thus I would recommend running a regular and two stage to quiet things down.

I installed two magnaflow mufflers in line on my system

The first is a 5"x14" round 3" in 3" out
second is a 5"x8"x18" oval 3" in 2x2.25" out

Brought my car to the dyno and those two mufflers robbed my car of almost 60hp throughout the entire RPM range.

Took off the catback and this was the result

I also didn't find it that quiet, my car is much quieter now as I am using Apexi ATS which I remove at the track.

When I bought my car it came with a custom Magnaflow cat-back. The previous owner had it fabbed up and installed.

I didn't like the sound, and it was tying up power on the dyno, so I replaced it. Here's a photo of it after being removed. It went straight to the garbage...

I do have a Magnaflow "resonated midpipe" (from Rx7Store). I like it a lot.

Oval can are always restrictive, I'm interested to see some result with the straight through type muffler.

a few years back I had a loaner magnaflow muffler from my mechanic. Compared to stock: sound wise it was a little bit louder & power wise my butt dyno didnt notice much improvement. But it did seem was restrictive because under high boost one could hear air rushing out the tail pipe. A sign that the exhaust is inadequate

i actually have a custom magnaflo mid pipe muffler 3in in and out oval muffler in the mid pipe . I have to say. makes my car sound deeper and has fuller rev note than the obvious straight pipe systems. it does help though that my actual cat back (buddyclub Spec 2) has a small resonator as well. i couldn't tell you what kind of power was made, lost on the car. either way im supper happy with the way it sounds.
