Anyone tried to Varex Remote Control Muffler/Silencer?

Ok, so this is basically a continuation from the Apexi Active Silencer thread.

I was looking online for a silencer that I could possibly control from inside the car, this way I wouldn't have to get out of the car and remove it at a track meet or something like that.

Well, I came across the Varex Remote Control Muffler. Apparently there's a butterfly valve in the muffler that opens and closes on command. When it's closed the exhaust gas exits through an opening into the end of the muffler. When it's open, the muffler acts just like any other 3in catback.

Here's the video of it in action:

Has anyone used this? I'm actually very intrigued by this and am thinking of purchasing it. I kind of want something like this, but I don't want it to be remote controlled. Does anyone else know of any other mufflers or silencers that are like this?

Give me feedback on your uses with this.

i've seen remote control valves used on wastegates before (dump vs recirculate)

and ive seen a few options for cat backs, but most of them are some sort of adapter, not a whole rear muffler.

Apexi and a few other brands make butterly valves that can be controlled inside the vehicle.

This one is manually operated and can be placed between any exhaust flanges.

Exactly what I'm looking for, I wonder if there is one that is motorized?

Would the sudden closure of the butterfly hurt the engine or turbo at all?

Do you still use the setup Gordon?

Friend of mine has this on his S15. Works well, fully closed is as quiete as stock but fully open is like no muffler! It does rob power if its closed.

And when closed, you get an increase in back pressure.
It's not a good idea to drive WOT when closed.

I think it would be nice having a motorized butterfly connected to an AI setup, when boost comes on, it opens up and AI kicks in.

I just want to be able to control it within the cockpit. How does your friend have it installed in his cockpit bighaks?

i believe that some back-pressure helps the turbo to spool quicker.

it would be cool to see an computer-controlled butterfly exhaust valve, that was slightly more closed at idle, then opens up according to rpm. perhaps this might be a good way to get the seq "fast spool" out of a "non seq" setup.
