Anyone remove their spare tire before (Fds w/Bose)?

The other day I had to remove my spare tire because some noob with an FC decided to run into the curb while being an idiot. Since nobody had a spare he could use, I realized I was the only one that had one and was approached while getting ready to sneak out of there unnoticed. Being the only one with a spare that would fit an FC, I didnt have much choice but to help a "fellow rotor head" out.

This was the very first time I had ever seen my spare tire, let alone remove it. After looking around back there, I figured it would be relatively easy to remove the tire. Right?

I removed the carpet, unbolted the tire, and removed the clip to the Bose tube. I figured I would lift the Bose tube with one hand and pull out the tire with the other and be on my merry way. I have never been more wrong in my life.

The tire needed to be lifted about two inches more for it to clear the "tower" thats used to hold the tire in place. Unfortunately the Bose tube could not be moved anymore without bending the **** out of it and possibly screwing it up. After about 20mins of pulling, sweating, pushing, grunting, changing positions, and cursing enough to put a Ron Jeremy flick to shame, the tire finally slid out.

Completely removing the Bose tube would have made the whole process much easier but then it would make things more complicated. I cant imagine trying to remove the tire on the side of the freeway without the thought of jumping into traffic crossing your mind atleast once.

The fun wasnt over just yet. Putting the tire back in required twice the muscle mass and twice the amount of curse words used.

Total amount of time spent removing and replacing the tire: ~60mins.

Another reason to ditch the bose garbage. It's also like 30 pounds of useless junk eating into your rear hatch storage area. My R1 never had it.....I can remove my spare in about 27 seconds

It's really easy to take out the tire even with Bose. This part right here can be bended in any direction to make room to get the tire out.

You just unclip the tube and then unscrew a washer to the left and you're out like butter

Hmmm... I'll look into that washer from hell. It didnt help that it was night time and 45 degrees F outside when I did all this. 45F in So. Cali is like being in Alaska for us wussy Californians .

My Bose system works very well. Tearing it out, buying new speakers and wiring everything up is too much trouble/money. My spanish music sounds good enough on it

45???? Hell last time I was in LA it was like 65 and people were complaining. For us Seattle-ites, any thing over 65 and we're sweating. Personally, I'd ditch the Bose and do something atermarket. I'm in the process of doing a 5.1 surround system in my 93 and everything seems to just fall into place in this car. It even has a center channel speaker in the dash from the factory. The only major mod I'm doing is a pair of pillar mounted tweeters to "lift" the main-stage a bit. It's gonna be awesome when I get it done.

Get AAA and you'll never have to think about it again.

I figured the Bose tube was supposed to move out of the way like that but I missed the fastener SiKoPaThX mentioned

Better yet, next time I will just say "sucks to be you!" and drive off. People should be prepared with the essential tools/equipment if theyre going to drive like idiots.

Next time I have to remove the tire for my use, I'm sure I wont be annoyed and have a clear mind to do things the right way.

No owners manual either? The first time I did it I read the manual, and it came out in about 2 min. That is the entire point of having the sound absorbing rubber accordian.

Actually, the pic in the manual looks just like what 'twinturboboy' posted. Now we know, and knowing is half the battle

I don't understand. You let him borrow the tire for like an hour and then put it back? Or did you put it back at a later date? lol.

Yep, it's that little thumb-nut fastener. . .then it works like a charm. . .and I have to say after getting all my bose amps refurbed by that place in Florida that does that sort of thing, the original sound system is pretty darn hard to beat!
