Anyone re-surface their R1 front chin/lip?

I want to get rid of the scratches/gashes on my front chin spoiler. Anyone done it yet? Was figuring on using different grades of sand paper till I got a smooth finish.

I actually used a bondo type material...sanded it smooth..primered and repainted with bumper paint (flexible)...well it look fantastic for a little while..

then through normal curb scrapage and stuff..paint cracks...now you can kinda see the orange bondo stuff...need to do it again.

I actually coated mine with rubber undercoating. Didn't even have to sand it. Just gave it a few coats and there you have it. It looks good when Armored Alled, too.

flybye: that looks really good. Do you have any information where you got that undercoating and how much it was?

Yeah it does look good. It looks like it has a dull finish on it? Any idea if they make the stuff you used in a glossier finish?

I sprayed mine with some stuff called Black Satin.
it makes a bit more brilliant looking but doesnt disguise the scratches that well. but it does look better than it did before.

It's just regular rubber undercoating. You can find it at any autoparts store. Yes, it DOES have a dull coat to it, but if you apply Armor All to it, it looks really good. I've never seen a rubber undercoat paint with a shiny finish.

Mine lasted about 2 years without needing to recoat it.

I saw that stuff, too, but it was a little TOO gray for me.

Actually, i JUST finished re surfacing my R1 front lip.. it's sitting in my living room right now.. just waiting for the clear coat to dry a bit.. all i did was fill in the deep gashes with some bondo and sanded it smooth with fine sandpaper.. and then primered it myself.. and painted it.. Looks awesome..

Seems that I patched up some gashes in a black rubber bumper strip a few years back and found a bumper filler - like a flexible black bondo. I filled and sanded it and sprayed it w/ bumper black and it worked really well. I think I got it at Pep Boys or one of those outfits.
