Anyone know what it takes to import an RX7 from Japan?

I started reading about rotary engines a few months ago and now my interest in them has grown 400%. I really want a rotary car to play with. Thing is, I lived in Japan for a couple years and saw several 93-95 rx7s go for around $5k, and few had over 50,000 miles on them. So I am curious about what it would take to import one over and get it titled/street (emissions) legal here. I know it can be done, as I remember reading in Car & Driver about a company that imported Skylines. I just don't know how much it would all cost. Anyways, I am sure it would be under the 13-15k that they go for here. And how cool would it be to have a right hand drive car? Well, except at McDonalds drive thru.

Last I remember, most felt importing a 93-95 shouldnt be hard. But importing the models that weren't near identical to ours is not worth the effort.

More then it would cost to buy one here. There are several topics that have already discussed this throughly if you'd still like to go further into it.

well, my firend bought a r33 gtr skyline and he has to get it through motorex. they are the only ones in california that has the license to do it as of right now. yes there are people bringing cars in for a very low price from japan but they cannot be registered without legalization.

btw, he bought that grip stick for drive throughs... its a 3 foot metal tube that has suction cups at the end.

I couldn't even get a JDM CRX over here when I tried. But I live in Cali. Maybe in BFE, it's not that hard.
