Anyone installed '99 spec side skirts? Have the Mazda instructions?

Hey guys -

Got a used set of '99 side skirts for my car recently. I'm looking to mount them up in a quality fashion, so I'd like to figure out how Mazda intended them to go on the car.

Does anyone have the instructions that come with the side skirts new? Or has seen them installed and know how they attach?

Yes, I know I can just drive in a pile of self-tapping screws and double-sided tape, but I prefer to do it as right and OEM-style as possible.

Thanks!
Dale

Are these OEM or the shine auto replicas?

Dale - I went thru this exact same thing about a year ago. I got all the oem hardware from Japan and the exploded view drawing. It does NOT mount in the same holes as the domestic wing. I made my own templates from paper, taped them to the bottom of the wing, put it on the car and marked the holes. I will try to dig up my old thread.

Baddrx7 - you're saying "wing" - do you mean side skirts? This is NOT a spoiler, but the side skirts that go along the bottom side of the car between the two wheels, underneath the door.

I'm sorry, I didn't read close enough. But the same thread may point you to the Japanese site that has the exploded view of what you need.

Here is the thread -
https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...c+rear+spoiler

And the member DaiOni had a link to a exploded view of a 99 spec rear spoiler. I am sure he could find your side skirts also.

I dont think you're gonna get any more OEM than self tapping screws and double sided tape.

Just get SS screws and 3M tape. The best of each kind. Some shops actually can get chrome blank caps to cap off the head of the screw so it looks neat.

But even then, that shouldnt be a concern since the screws are on the bottom and unless when people look at your car and say, "hey let me see the screws on the bottom of the skirts", i dont think anyone would notice except you.

They're actually not as simple of an install as one would think.

First off, they are SOLID foam blocks and quite heavy and floppy. This means they need to be affixed to the car quite rigidly.

Second, on the long section, there is a mystery threaded stud coming out that I can't figure out the reason for. Also, it looks like some of the mounting points line up with stock holes, some don't.

The more insight and info I have, the better quality the install will be.

I'm also fanatical about the little things - the stuff you DON'T see. That's what makes the difference.

If you get them new, they'll likely come with all the hardware and an instruction sheet for mounting. I got my side skirts used, so I got nothing but the side skirts.

If you DID get them new, I'd LOVE to get a scan of the instructions and/or pictures of the hardware that comes with the sideskirts.

Don't know about the wing, though - I have no experience with the '99 spec wing.

^ ^ I'm not sure how you can order them new. My source in Japan can't get them new from Mazda as they are out of production.

I can pretty much guarantee you that you won't be able to get 'em. They've been discontinued for YEARS. That's why I sell used *100% GENUINE OEM* sets.

If corksport doesnt receive my skirts within this week though, Im gonna tell them to stop looking. UGH. Hey did you ask Ramy? He sells those replicas. Im sure he'll know.
No, I do not, have not, and will not ever sell replicas. I sell 100% genuine originals only. And if anyone needs a set, let me know.

Thanks,

PS: Sorry Dale, I don't have any advice for ya; I'm ****, but not THAT **** lol. Double sided tape and/or body-colored screws are what most ppl do. I mold my stuff on...so no screws necessary

Junkie81 is physically mailing a copy of the directions to me - thanks a bunch! I'll scan them in and PDF them for everyone once they arrive.

Thanks,
