Question Anyone have a better way to attach the fender vents?

Hey guys -

So the project car I'm working on is fixing to get the fender vents installed. Stock, the vents have 2 plastic clips held on with small Phillips head screws.

When the car was assembled, this made sense - workers would just pop the vent into place and done. To remove, you could, in theory, pry and pop the vent out, but more often than not it will break that plastic clip.

The clip is part number FD01-51-PS3, looks to still be available and around $7 each. Considering you need 4 to do both fenders, $28 for 4 tiny plastic clips is kind of a ripoff.

When removing these vents, I normally try and get in there and remove the screw that holds the plastic clip in then remove.

So, it seems like there could be a better way to mount it that would require it to be screwed on from the inside. Maybe a washer or something.

Regardless, I would like it to pull the vent tight to the fender and be super secure and long-term.

Anyone had any good ideas they have tried?

Dale

BC Vent clip.

Just a word of caution on anyone thinking to pull out the vent from the outside. Try that and you are likely to break of the posts that the clips, Dale refers to, are mounted on.

I know Dale would know this, but you should loosen off the top of the fender and undo the screws, or pinch the splines on the clips, from the inside.

I wonder, Dale, if you could use small size drywall screw mounts in place of the clips?

The result of someone yanking the vent from the outside.

When I painted my car, the clips were already damaged. So I drilled the posts and used small pan head stainless screws and flat washers plus double sided 3M tape as back up.
