I reseated the connector, checked the vac lines to it and reset the codes.... comes right back even before you start the car (code 40 with key in on position)
is the valve probably just borked?
any effect on performance/fuel economy? (this is one of those codes that doesn't even illuminate the check engine light)
thanks

Ch for battery voltage between the B/W wire at the connector and ground with the key on. If that's ok, ck the solenoid with an ohm meter you should see 30 to 35 ohms, I'll bet you'll see an open circuit. I don't think you'll see any symptoms.

Ya, an open circuit in the solenoid itself. It's part of the emission system that collects fumes from the gas tank and dumps them in the intake. You'll be venting the fumes to the atmosphere from the gas cap, causing untolled damage to the ozone layer............. J/k
